Not sure what city you're in but in Denver, the pricing model we write show $6.64/sf for very good grade bamboo flooring. $3.56 material, $3.08 labor. 3 foot steps $22.44/each. Good underlayment (if needed) $0.68/sf $0.41/material, $.27/labor, vapor barrier $.28/sf (usually in humid climates or in baths, kitchens). Prep floor by sand and scrape $1.50/sf. Tear out carpet $.19/sf, tear out pad $.09/sf, remove tack strip $.40/lf. Probably a few transition strips around doors $3.32/lf. Maybe a dump fee for the carpet ($200 at the most). Some taxes on the material. Maybe some quarter round, may need to detach and reset the base. May be some contents manipulation. It's probably pretty close. Did you ask him to break it down?
