If so why do they take all these risk? All they have to do is use the copter and take pictures and the offenders will be arrested at their 1st port?

Then that most be the most poorly run vessel in the history of seamanship. I think the old grey haired fat guy just had enough money to buy a boat and they are just making fun of him.

You know, I watched a few minutes of a couple of different episodes. I'm pretty strongly against whaling... or at least I was. The assholes on that ship came pretty close to putting me on the side of the whalers.

I tried watching some of it also. But the bigger dick heads are still the guys with "Research" stamped on the boat and killing the whales and bringing it home as food for profit in the market. There are plenty of restaurants that serve whale in Japan. As long as law permits it, these guys won't stop.

Even worse is the shark fins

I had the chance to visit Iceland a few years back and I intended to sample whale (as well as seal and puffin) when I was there, just so I could say I did. All it took was one look at restaurant prices in that expensive country to dissuade me. I had a hard enough time paying 8 bucks for a glass of bad beer, much less $50 or so for a lunch of seafood I didn't particularly support in the first place.

On a side note, I'm convinced the Icelandic people are the most beautiful in the world.

They do take pics amd vids from the heli but as long as the whalers claim it is research then nothing will be done. There isn't anyone to police their actions in international waters.
I did think the sea shepherd took it too far when they were debating on whether to attack the yoshi muri(sp?) while they were searching for a man overboard. At least they eventually decided against it.

I always thought whales were pretty cool and had a blast watching them at Sea World.

However, this article changed my perception in a drastic way. Anyone interested should read this amazing article:

http://www.nytimes.com/2009/07/12/m...&sq=gray whales&st=cse&scp=1&pagewanted=print

As humans, we should all be grateful they don't have hands with opposable thumbs.
Great read. Thanks for sharing.

If only whales knew how to read; that way everytime they saw "research" they would know to go into attack mode or get the hell out of there.

i've tried watching it, but it seems like a worthless point. they have no authoritative powers to stop the whale hunters.
The thing that got me was the whole "research" thing that the ships would have signs saying "we are doing research". If that was the case i guess the question is "how many whales do you need to kill for research purposes?", but until those ships own countries of origin enforce some law about how many can be caught, then the people who are trying to stop it are fighting a losing battle.
Instead of basically harassing the whale hunters, they need to be going to those countries leaders and trying to get laws enacted and enforced.
