Anyone else think car repair and oil change places are the biggest scams

no matter what you have the car in for they find something else wrong with it and want to stick you with a high bill or if you go in for a simple oil change, somehow they still manage to fuck shit up.

I went to jiffy lube for an oil change, when i get into my car to leave, the car seems a little stiff and a sligh jerk to it when i accelerate, i figure it will pass in a second. I pull into walmart to buy a dvd and come back out. my car doesnt start very well and starts making a puttering noise when sitting in park. i decide ill head back to jiffy lube as the car sounds terrible now. on my way back to jiffy lube the check engine light comes on. I arrive back at jiffy lube and some how they managed to put someone elses filter back into my car and it was noticeably to small for my car.

like how do you screw up a job you do over and over each day, and you cant notice its to small by a few inches as your doing the job

I have a 2002 SUV with 45K miles on it. The car has never had any problems. I took it to Pep Boys to have the oil changed and a tire fixed. I was at a Rockies game later that evening, and when I came back to my car the tire was flat and my car was leaking oil.

My problem with Jiffy Lube is they always act like I'm putting them out when I go there so I don't think I will go back anymore (but it's near my work, thus why I go there).

They always make me feel bad because I don't opt for their $500 a quart oil because it's much better for my car. The standard is fine for me, if it's so shitty why do you offer it at all?

And finally, they bring over the filter every time to show it to me and say "see how dirty this is? We recommend you get it replaced." No shit, it's dirty, take your air hose and blow it out and it won't be. I don't need it replaced every 3,000 miles.

Outside of that, I love that place.

My old roomie Lauren went to get her oil changed. A while later her gas mileage went way down. Then the car started to stink of gas. She took it in and apparently at the oil change place they had punctured her gas line. Instead of fixing it, they put a cheap clamp on that eventually came loose. Gas was pouring out. A spark coulda exploded that sum bitch.

i know Jiffy Lube is, i worked there for a whopping whole week. Place is a scam to up-sell unknowing people on every little thing.

May 2006 - NBC Los Angeles uncovered a scheme at local Jiffy Lube stores where customers were charged for repairs that were never done.

Now, in an email, Jiffy Lube tells NBC Los Angeles that it's taking "agressive" steps to stop the fraud we uncovered.

A Burbank Jiffy Lube was closed to customers for two days because the company was retraining all its employees. Four other Los Angeles area stores were also closed -- all stores that we caught on tape charging for services, like a transmission flush, that were never done.

After our investigation, dozens of customers ... (emailed to say they) wondered if the same thing had happened to them.

To ease those concerns, Jiffy Lube says it's installing video cameras in 31 Los Angeles area stores so customers can make sure repairs are really getting done.

Jiffy Lube has also terminated six employees we caught on tape, including one employee at the Encino store who sold us a new fuel filter but later admitted to the district manager that the work was not done.

Also gone is the district manager, Steven Ayoub, who denied his identity when I tried to question him.

This is now the third time in three years that Jiffy Lube told us it was cleaning up its act.

With these latest changes, Jiffy Lube hopes customers like Dore Rodine will give it one more chance.

When asked if the steps Jiffy Lube was taking were enough to gether back as a customer, Rodine said, " That's difficult to say, Joel. I'm really not sure."

You might wonder why someone from Jiffy Lube didn't appear in this report. The company still won't sit down and talk on camera with Grover about the NBC Los Angelesinvestigation or the steps they are taking to clean up.

that's why Jiffy Lube and places like that have a ladies day. They offer a special for ladies for an oil change and because women know a lot less about cars that men do, they'll surely try to upsell them on something or rip them off.

I've never taken my car to Jiffy Lube because of reasons that were mentioned here.

When they get it right (which is most of time) they are a good deal. Unfortunately, if they screw up, they can cause the car owner a lot of money and time.

Considering they will change your oil and put in a new filter for a mere $20-$30 dollars in a half hour or less, it's a bargain. The materials are at least $10.They are running a razor thin margins. Hence the need to upsell.

If you make it a war game, it makes the experience not as bad. Whenever they attack with trying to sell you something you don't need, just whip out your trusty AK 47 verbage machine gun and fire off a few "I wish I could, but I don't have the money right now" or "thanks for reminding me, I will get that done next time I am here," type excuses and everyone goes away happy.

If you're worried about poor work or can't say "No thanks, I just want the oil change" then go to a dealership for the service; they charge a little more but will mess with you much less. Wal-Mart is a good option because they don't perform a lot of car repairs and, therefore, have less incentive to try and up-sell.
