Check out Craigslist

Solid advice here. Not many people would think to look here for jobs.

Networking is your friend. Check the universities in your area and see when the Career Days are. Great opportunity for interviews.

there's always the nation's employer:

70% of the people who work for Wal-Mart quit within one year..The other 30% are employees like this guy, who is an honorary member of the Star Trek Society.

i have...and I have a decent idea right now for an internet based co..it seems really demanding to get it started. you gotta have time and money, and I don't have much of either between going back to school and saving for retirement and a house. Working for myself is something i want to do...just later on in life when I can afford to take a hit if it blows up -better than I could now. But who knows.

i'm hoping to find something somewhat early instead of waiting, and ending up settling for something I hate, making less money just to pay the bills. but if it comes to that, you gotta do what you gotta do.

I'd off myself in a heartbeat before working at a Walmart, I think I'd prefer prison.

Why don't you try to launch it now (part-time gig)? Then if you lose your job, you have a head start.

The Falls....... one thing i can guarantee you.

if your going to start something or try something, do it while your young. you have time on your side to recover. do not sit and wait... you have to go for it, while your young.

you dont know this now (im 40 btw) but as you get older, you will become more cautious, afraid of losing what you have. you will become less of a risk taker and then you will be left with (what if i had only took the chance).

go for it...... 28yrs old, plenty of time to recover.

I am sorry to hear of so many misfortunes.

I work in the recruiting industry and typically the first quarter of the year is a goldmine. Companies open the year eager to fill needs, have new budgets to work off of, etc. Not this year.

Stay in the line of work you have been doing ~ people trying to "make a career switch" have come running back as nobody is paying anything substancial for what amounts to be a learner in a new field.

Monster and careerbuilder are where the jobs and resumes are. Hotjobs is number three. hcareers.com if you are in the medical or hospitality field. Remember the companies advertising on Monster and careerbuilder are paying a pretty penny to do so. Your Craigslists and that type of thing are where the companies go that don't want to pay the big boys so finding a decent paying gig there might be hard.

Companies are reacting very slowly to candidates (because they can)

Good luck to all.

yep, i got laid off a few weeks ago. I got a nice sev. package so I am in no hurry. One thing I do agree on in this thread is that the economy should be getting your attention if it hasn't already. Some well known companies are in trouble. This summer will be ugly

My brother got laid off years ago as an EE in the Denver area. That pretty much ended his career as an engineer. It seems you can't stay in Co. and be an engineer, and he ain't leaving Co. 6 figure long-term job just gone.

My workplace just cut out two positions and now telling us their cutting out a mid level mgt. position which they'll be stepping down to our positions which means more guy's getting laid off.

Thinking they should cut more fat from the management positions, lazy assholes just run around looking for crap to do to justify their position.

I'm curious to know which professions you have had the most success in filling. Seems like right now...anyone that has any acctng experience is getting jobs easily.

Move to Dallas, our economy is out of control down here. This place is absolutely flooded with business and opportunitys right now. And if you are a 7 footer who can play some decent ball, we may have a spot for that too.

Oh and I forgot to mention, its cheap to live here and we have some of the hottest women in the world.

i live in addison. what field are you in? cashiering?

and don't move to Dallas..there are too many peeps doing that. Fastest growing city in the US..162,000 peeps moved here last yr. too many and more competition, and it doesn't allow for home prices to fall very far.
