Did anyone check out the new mall? The Paseo de Las Flores in Heredia. Almost went but it looked like the traffic was more than I could stand. So, I went to the Cariari instead.

Do they still have basically just one street going to and from Heredia that thousands of cars have to funnel through everyday? I used to love sitting in traffic on that road. It's enough to drive you insane. Costa Rica would be a lot better if you could move around and go places instead of facing gridlock everywhere you turn.

Gee guys, how come everytime a gringo makes an observation about things here in CR everyone gets all agro? I mean just because you observe certain things as being less than perfect (ie the friggin traffic) doesnt make you anti-tico. I should know I love costa rica and all the bad drivers, litterers, and hookers that live here. Oh yeah and the rest you guys too.

I hope you are not talking about that ass hole American. If you are, do a search on his posts and you will probably understand the reaction....

P.S. I have to agree wth American on this one. Im sure the people who post on this forum aren't the same ******* IDIOTS out on the street, but please, can this ******* country adapt some manners like the good 'ol USA?!?!? If I'm driving 12 feet away from te car in front of me AND YOU R THE CAR RIGHT IN BACK OF ME, you dont have to cut around and in front of me...DO U?!?!?!? Seriously, this country would be dangerous if poeple could carry guns while driving.....

LMAO! That's one of the most curious things about Costa Rican "culture". The Ticos have been conditioned that things take time due to inherent inefficiency. You'll see people waiting in bank lines for an hour and a half without complaining. Going to ICE to take take of a billing problem care take up a whole afternoon and no one bitches about that. But when these peace-loving Ticos get behind the wheel of a car, all of a sudden they have somewhere they need to be right away and they lose all common sense and patience.

It's not just the Ticos though. It seems to be the whole Latin culture. Puerto Ricans drive the exact same way in Florida with the tailgating and not maintaining their lanes. There's a Puerto Rican part of town I go through now and then, and the driving there is completely different, as if you entered another world.

Don't worry about road-rage down in CR though. Ticos are all bark and no bite. Just have some patience and if the guy behind you just HAS to get in front of you, let him go. It's better he's in front of you than behind you where he can smash into the back of you.
