Fortunately, no. God bless that poor young girl.

My advise when traveling in Central America:

No nice watches, gold jewerly, flashy clothes, etc.
minimal eye contact when walking down the street in unsure areas. why provoke something.
try to get a cab/driver to stay with you, show you where to go, etc.
3 sets of cash: front pocket- big bills. back pocket-small amount of smaller bills to pay fast without needing change., sock/shoe-backup bills as a plan B.
don't buy drugs abroad from people you don't know on the street and outside of bars. If it is a simple transaction with a bellboy at a hotel, take your chances.
Ask for the price prior to any purchase, agreement or deal.
Finally, LEARN SPANISH.

El Salvador was chill, Nicaragua is fine, Belize was mellow, Guatemala was enjoyable. Now, Honduras scared the shit out of me. Didn't leave the hotel and went straight to the bus station the following morning. Did that for the two major cities while leaving the country. The only place where I felt unsafe and I went to Tanger, Morocco a few times back in the day...

I transported a vehicle through Central America. There were two places where I felt uncomfortable. One was Guatemala, though I think it was just an isolated event. Honduras was the other and it was multiple. Apart from having shitty roads, Honduras had military checkpoints and they just looked like they wanted an excuse. Multiple times we were asked for "gifts" even an opened Coca Cola. Never gave no for an answer.

El Salvador is chill. People were nice. The police gave us an escort through San Salvador and then later a different patrol pulled us over because they wanted to sell us raffle tickets. I'd so hang there.
