Anyone been to Gasparilla (spelling) in Tampa?

My friends are going to this next weekend but don't know what kind of party/festival it is - whose been - is it fun? worth driving from Miami

Yes, several times while I lived in Tampa. Great time, wear some comfortable sneakers as you will be doing a lot of walking around. You may want to take a good hard look at logistics, parking is a bitch, people are absolutely pickled by the end of the day, fuzz is everywhere handing out DUI's.

I've only attended the parade, which is fun if you like to fight large crouds for beads being thrown. (haha joking it is actually fun)

The rest of it, such as the invasion, I'm not sure of but have only heard good things.
