Not much of a high school or college wrestling fan, but this is a big deal in Iowa for sure. I noticed they now hold this at the Wells Fargo Center; Vets must not be used for much anymore. I grew up going to Vets and enjoyed quite a few great Drake basketball games and some quality NWA pro rasslin' matches.

Saw a couple NWA title bouts and some various Drake hoops games.
Fondest memory of Vets is probably the girls state basketball tournaments in the 70's........classic events.

Now Fish this is what Iowa is known for. As a former wrestler I enjoy watching good high school programs. Iowa has always been right up there.
I used to go to national meets when I was in high school and seemed like the kids from Iowa were so far advanced. Hell I would lose and look at my coach and say what the hell was that move. LOL SO far superior than what we were doing in Michigan.
Went to a couple of High School Women's Basketball Tournaments in Des Moines during the early 70's...6 on 6
Exactly how I felt coming from New Jersey...Thought I was a stud, but realized that I was overmatched with the Iowa guys...wrestled all over the midwest from 69-71...
I enjoyed this thread. My HS in NJ drew larger crowds for wrestling than basketball and had cheerleaders for matches and I still check on NJ wrestling news. Northeast NJ NY PA wrestling is very good but a level below Iowa Neb Oka midwest. I think the emerging success of MMA will feed back into interest and exposure for scholastic wrestling and other olympic contact events.
Update===Twin Rivers has had 3 of their 4 wrestlers in tonights QUARTERFINAL matches advance to the SEMI's, and did so in impressive fashion.
