I have been around Ivey a couple of times and have friends that know him better than most. His poker genius will never outrun his gambling addiction.

So true...If he didn't have the Full Tilt money pouring in, he'd have been busto long time ago.

Before he turned 21 he was sneaking into casinos with a fake ID in Atlantic City. When he got a little bit older he had a job that let him come and go. So he would play and go on good runs but when he went broke he would work for a little bit then go back to the casinos. Thats the little bit I remember from reading a bio about him in one of the Card Player magazines.

Uhh..no. The Full Tilt sponsorship money is peanuts compared to what he earns online at FTP. He made $7.34 million in 2008 playing at max a couple hours a day. Take into account that he doesn't even play everyday, and you will see he absolutely rakes it in every hour he plays.

You must be kidding??? I have played Southern Hills many times, but have never been a member. I played golf with the head pro(Dave Bryan) at OU. I quit my club(new owners) last fall, and have played very little golf this year. I don't seem to miss it.

Sponsorship ? Uh, try again, he owns a large number of shares in Full Tilt, along with Lederer and some other pros.

Think about that, he gets a piece of the rake income. So he can blow a couple mil at dice or on a football game no problem...lucky for him.

there's a lot of internet guys who have started small and worked their way up the ladder...

tom dwan
brian townsend
phil galfond
david benefield are 4of the highest online players in the world

the new show on G4 2months2million one of the guys who plays 25/50 on to like 100/200 online is on that show his blog was great to read foxwoodsfiend . com (he told his story how he kept going bust over and over until he finally started beating the games and now he is worth over 1million several of his friends are on the show (they are all jewish) they all play like 10/20 25/50 and 50/100

i can fathom how many guys there are playing 5/10 NL online across all the sites 10+ tables raking in well into the 6 figures who are completely unknowns and they have no desire to move up in stakes or make a name for themselves they just play there few hours a day and make there money....

there's a good site with a lot of poker blogs you can read and you see the range from .50/$1 to $2/4 to $5/10 to $25/50 all the way up to Townsend and Benefield (who stopped blogging and i think has given up poker for the time being) cardrunners . com

ivey prob makes 7 mil a month from full tilt ownership, whatever it is it is a sick figure which his poker winnings(while large) pale in comparison to.

interesting how these guys can live in this country and own a business in another. One which is deemed illegal here , and make millions with no penalty .

I am sure if you pay taxes here on the money the Government looks at it a little different.
