What does 2007 beta mean?

It's a prerelease version of the next Office (Office 2007). It's meant to be used by testers and software developers, but Microsoft makes it available to the public - free download for a while, then they charge a buck for it to make up for bandwidth costs. It's the full working product but it will eventually expire when the final version is shipped.

It's also the only bit of Microsoft software I've ever legitimately owned. :puppy:

I'll tell you one thing, if you ever get a pirated copy of any MicroSoft product, whatever you do don't try to get any Updates from MS!

I bought a PC from Frye's that had Linspire installed instead of any kind of Windows. A friend said he'd install XP for me, so I gave him my PC for a day. Sure enough I wound up with XP Pro which was great until 6 weeks ago. I got a message on my PC that there was a new update to install from MS. So I did the update. Supposed to be for "security" purposes.

Long story short, now every time I start up the PC, before it boots up, I get a LARGE message telling me I have an illegal copy of XP. Fortunatley they give you a choice of "Resolve Now" or " Resolve Later". If you hit the Resolve Now, they give you a choice of paying $149 for real MS software, or by turning in the "illegal" disk and where you got it, and get the real software for free. If you click on "Resolve Later" the PC will continue to boot up like normal. However...there's always that however isn't there....a balloon message comes up by the tool bar reminding you that you have an illegal copy of their software. You click on it and it disappears, but it keeps coming back from anywhere from 15 minutes to an hour. Quite annoying!!! Another thing is that you can no longer get any kinds of updates from MS. They'll keep telling you there are updates, but if you click on them they say you are using illegal software. I've tried to use all sort of spyware to try and get rid of it, but nothing seems to work. If anyone knows how to defeat this message nonsense from them please post it here! Thanks!

You can get office off of bearshare.com and you even get the security code to open up the program for free.

No reason to pay for the software if you cant afford it

I don't get why any of you buy Office unless its a business purchase. Open Office works exactly the same as long as you make sure you save the files correctly. After you do it a few times it just becomes part of the process. I have been using it for over 2 years and just update it every now and then. Not one thing I do with Office that I can't do with Open Office. Only thing that hasn't worked as well is the feature you use to bring up charts from webpages. I am guessing 98% of you don't use that. It works sometimes, doesn't others. No big deal.
