i was in a position not to long ago where i was paying for gift certificates to restaurants for customers of mine and i used this...only drawback is look for stipulations such as day of week it can be used and you must spend certain amount etc...most do not have stipulations but make sure to look...could save you from being embarrassed if you give them to someone else..if just for you? no problem...

How does this not wind up costing the restaurant anything ?

Are they saying maybe break even, and gain a customer ?

I've used it a lot...usually there are restrictions, like you can only use a $25 discount, or you have to spend at least x amount. Not as useful as I wish it was.

I was involved with restaurant.com in my last job about 5 years ago. The "no out of pocket" expense is key. It does cost the restaurant owner the cost of the meal which is typically only 25 to 30% of the menu price. Most make you pay cash for any liquor or alcohol which the profits on that more than cover the restaurants food cost. You also have to look at the average check size of the restaurant. If the average entree costs $12.95, party of 2 plus drinks, maybe appetizer or dessert, the customer is still in for $20 plus tip before the whole thing is over. The restaurant in turn gets advertising on the the website for free with their menu and sometimes a virtual tour of the restaurant. Restaurant.com makes a killing, the restaurant has a customer in the seat, that they will certainly make something off of during the visit.

In my effort to give up fast food for good I utilize the take out and curbside services at restaurants a lot. Does restaurant.com make you dine in only in order to use their discounts? Also do the restaurants give you a hard time when you break out discounts? That is one of biggest problems with the entertainment book muthafuckas don't want to honor those coupons when you try to use it.

I gave up the entertainment book, canceled it for next year. Everything in it is too far away.

Are you limited to using 1 of these restaurant.com certificates at one time? Not sure how this works.

Also, you can get an additional 50% off using this link:

http://www.couponcabin.com/s.jsp?f=11919g&h=so_574_11919_2008-10-15&afsrc=1

That makes it 5$ for a 25$ certificate, not bad.

Looks like you generally need two entrees to get to the minimum food amount to use the coupon, but sounds like you could use two for four people.

I wouldn't go this route on a date, might not exactly impress the girl ( guy ?)

Well, they have some expensive places. A brazilian steakhouse near my work, it's normally 50$ a person (all you can eat type).

I can get 4 25$ certs, using the 50% off link, for a total of 20$, if I can use more than 1 at a time.

That's a pretty sick deal, $100 normal for $20 ?!

looks like the terms are clearly spelled out for each place, example :

Min purchase of $25. Mon-Fri dinner only. Excludes Holidays/Brunch/Lunch. Present before ordering. Minimum purchase of 2 entrees.
