My wife had the laser surgery in 1998 and here eyes were terrible. She now has 20/15 vision and sees the eye doctor once a year for a checkup. The surgery hurts like hell the first day, your eyes just burn. However the next day you have to drive back to see the doctor again and you should be able to drive yourself. She could see perfectly the next day. No down time. One of the best things we ever did. Cost us almost $5000 at that time but have recovered quite a bit of that by not having to pay out for eyeglass prescriptions, doctor visits, contacts and all the other crap that goes with not being able to see well.
My only advice would be this isn't something you want to bargain shop for. Do some research on your doctor. These are your eyes we are talking about.

Best thing I ever did. I have better vision now than when I wore contacts. One eye is even better than 20/20.
Spent like 1500 I think? One of the 1st guys to do it operates across the bridge in Windsor so all of his buddies opened up places local in Detroit so the pricing is nice due to all the comopetition.

Good Stuff...........My daughter had a weak muscle in one eye, which caused it to turn in when she would try to focus on something far away, so she is forced to wear eye glasses. But at the age of 5 she had laser surgery at UofM hospital, and the doctor is confident by the time she is a teenager she will no longer need to wear glasses. Also, Insurance covers it if you have optical with your employer.

Night vision problems can happen. This is primarily due to the fact that the pupil gets bigger under dim illumination. Let's say a person has a 4mm pupil in daylight and an 8mm pupil at night, now if the lazer treatment only covers the center 4-5mm then when the pupil expands at night peripheral light rays will not focus in the same position on the retina as the center rays. This is primarily the reason for the distorted night vision. There are lazers which will ablate a wider corneal zone, so that all light will focus together under all lighting conditions.
the best thing I ever did. it is a very simple painless procedure with no downtime. leave work early, have someone take you & drive you home. you'll see better instantly and will be back at work the very next day. they give you drops to put in. as your eyes heal, your sight gets better & better, it's amzing really is. the money you save from buying glasses or contacts, will quickly pay for the procedure. the distict sight you will have will amaze you. I highly recommend it.
Koo, I'm very happy with my 2 yr old laser job. It cost me 3K at the time, but is probably cheaper now. I have had no problems whatsoever, but there are many horror stories to be found.
See a few different surgeons & check up on who you decide to go with. You're talking about your vision, and every patient is unique. It's certainly not something to blindly go bargain hunting over-and yes, that pun was intended.
