So we hooked up a router. Internet works fine 90% of the time since my roommates are never home. However, as soon as one of them starts using their internet, mine slows to a crawl and it takes 5-10 minutes to load a page. Although they do download shit, most of the time they are just doing homework or checking email. Any ideas on how to solve this? Any settings to adjust? It's almost like the router kicks of me off as soon as one of them connects to the wireless. Goes back to working fine as soon as they leave.
Same router i have Jake and when my son was living here and playing those world of warcraft and shit like that it would slow my connection down to a crawl or boot me off completely. I tried a zillion things and really nothing worked till he moved out. Router may have some complicated settings that i never could figure out but as best i could tell it was just overloaded. If its a big problem u may just have to upgrade that router..
Are your roommates running torrent applications, even when they're not downloading? ISPs throttle connections if they can tell someone is file sharing with torrents. Maybe try blocking the ports bittorrent uses and see if that helps. It also could be virus-related... Maybe they have some malware or something attached to their browser? Just some thoughts, i think the tormenting one is most likely, if they do use that type of software.
