Hurricane Ivan ripped off roofs and cut power across Barbados on September 7, 2004, lashing the island with fierce winds but sparing it a direct hit as it roared into the eastern Caribbean. Ivan, the latest in a busy Atlantic hurricane season, passed south of the former British colony, felling trees and power lines and hurling debris around. This NOAA high resolution satellite image shows Hurricane Ivan (bottom right), and Hurricane Frances (top left) as of 10:15 AM on September 7, 2004. Frances recently left a trail of destruction across Florida that analysts say may cost six billion dollars. Photo by NOAA via Reuters
