They are becoming a homerun team. Yeah, homeruns win games, but when you depend on them they will come back and bite you in the ass.

look out, i see a boston/houston series!!

bigbet,

You don't know what you are talking about. Last night, Cards scored 10 runs on 1 home run while Astros scored all runs on home runs. So far in series all of Astros runs but 1 have been the result of the home run. While Cards home runs are responsible for 8 of 16 (50%). All I can say is neither of these two series ever get back to New York or St. Louis imo. If you are counting on Clemens and Oswalt you are in big trouble. Cards are not intimidated. They have had to face Schilling and Johnson two years in a row in the playoffs in Arizona a couple years ago and Johnson never beat them in one game in either series and Schilling had to be almost perfect to win 1-0 and 2-1 games in first series and lost to them in second series. If Clemens and Oswalt can't pitch at least 7 innings and have the lead when they leave, forget it. If Houston somehow sends this series back to Stl, again no chance as both would be on 3 days rest and again crappy bullpen would be forced into action by 6th. Throw in Garner and how he pulls the starters at the worst times brings us back to the same conclusion. Cards in 5, 6 tops. Better luck next year.

I like both teams ability to work the count NY STL, these teams really are very similar...Cards starters a slight edge, mainly becuase of the unknown status of Brown and El Duque...Slight edge to NY closer obviously...Cards bullpen a little deeper overall...

Rolen
Walker
Edmonds
Pujols
Sanders
Renteria
Womack

Jeter
ARod
Sheffield
Bernie
Hideki
Posada
Sierra

These two offenses are about dead even IMO...

Defense edge; Cards

Prediction; SOMEONE in 7

journeyman,

I agree with your assessment but I feel Cardinals in NY in a game 7 is asking too much. If this series goes 7, Yanks win imo as much as I would be heartbroken. Cards must get the job done before Game 7 otherwise they lose as Torre will probably throw Rivera from 7th inning on until they win.

I see a tie score in game 7 with Edgar Renteria singling up the middle for the winning run....or did i already see this? I love Renteria in the clutch! :toothless

Not sure Rivera could pitch 3 innings either...

Lets not forget the Yanks staff is still in somewhat disarray...

Journeyman,

I hope you are right but unfortunately if Game 7 there will be walkoff single since game being played in NY. The difference imo as to why Cards win is LaRussa and motivation. Cards are the more hungry team imo as they have not been to WS or won one in 22 years. Many Cards like Walker, Edmonds, Pujols, Rolen, etc have never one a championship just like Pistons/Lakers where Lakers were content and thought they could just show up. LaRussa is on a mission to convince STL fans he is worthy. You would be shocked as up until this year the number of people who want to fire LaRussa would call in on talk shows. You would of thought it was Chicago or New York. If he would lose to Torre, the whole thing would start up again as to why we got rid of Torre. LaRussa is the main reason why this team never gives up in any game and takes it one at a time (sound like Bellichick). Cards win in 5 and clinch it at home. It is a bit of a reach but just feel this is their year. Cards have a history of playing Yanks in WS and have beaten Yanks when at their best. Cards won first WS vs Ruth,Gehrig,(Murderer's Row) also won in 40's and in 64 with El Birdos (Mantle/Maris). I will also say they will fall flat on their face next year unless they get more pitching as Cubs will be super motivated imo and recent Cardinal history suggest big letdown following WS appearance (82,85,87) Anyway getting back to topic at hand, I hope Cards win. BOL
