Any of you JERSEY guys ever hear of this HIGH SCHOOL BASKETBALL PLAYER??

His name is DERICK CHARACTER, a somphmore who plays for Scotch Plains High School in Jersey!! Hes 15, 6'9", 260 lbs. Played last year at St. Patricks but left for unspecified reasons! Anyhow he is projected to be the NEXT SHAQ. I saw him play at 14 at the Jersey City Boys Club and he schooled college players! It was a great site watching this kid tear up the gym! He played at 13 for Scotch Plains high summer team and he led the team in scoring and rebounding! You can't play Varsity ball in Jersey till high School and they wanted him to play in 8th grade! ANYWAY this kid will be a junior next year and in 2 years YOU will be seeing a kid out of high school in the NBA named Derrick Character. He lives with his mom in jersey so I'm sure he'll go where the money is! We'll see! He has a size 16 sneaker at 15,lol! Look out Shaq!!

I'm half an hour from Scotch Plains. The kid is off the hook from everything I've heard. Never actually seen him play but there are articles about him in local papers often.

ESPN did ran an outside the lines about high school recruiting a few years back and I think they had a segment on DC, he was in the 7th grade I believe at the time.

Yes he was in 7th grade when ESPN ran that article! Believe me he came to the Jersey City Boys club at 13 carrting a stuffed animal! Players laughed at him! He ate them up on the court and people asked him for his autograph at 13!

He played at St. Pats for a while but didn't get much playing time cause there is favoritism there and the seniors got most of the action and didn't see eye to eye with the coach! So he went to Scotch Plains to play with the coach he had for a few years in Summer hoops!

i have seen a 1000 of kids like this not make it, wait 3-4 years and let us know something at that time.This hype crap with these kids is driving me to play again at my age.

I'm not hyping anyone up! I've seen this kid play, he's the real deal! With the right guidance which I hope he gets he's the NEXT COMING OF SHAQ! Even Shaq spoke to this kid last year! Only difference between Derrick and Shaq is Derrick can knock down 3's and hit foul shots!

I am from Jersey and follow high school hoops a lot and i dont think he is as good as the hype quite yet. His team just lost by 21 in a state game they didnt go very far at all. He had 14 points and was getting killed inside by some stiff center. He is extremely built for 15 yrs old though and has great skills but he is not quite there yet that is for sure.

This guy is now only the 4th or 5th ranked soph in the nation. the #1 guy is 6'11 250 pound Greg Oden from Indianapolis, IN.
