What is the process? What was your experience?

I'm going to register next week.

im jk man, but its not a easy donation. I believe they drill and take it from your pelvis? and recovery time is a few weeks. You really should look into it and make sure your committed before registering

Why not just donate plasma? I used to do it when i was in college. $15 bucks for sitting there for 15 minutes with a needle in your arm. Bone Marrow just sounds painful.

I don't care about money man. If someone needs marrow to save their life, I'm more than happy to help.

It's gonna be the most painful thing you've done in your life yet most likely. Have fun and enjoy it...

i am on the registry (my whole crew got on it when a buddy got cancer a few years back)....have not been called though

my cousin did it for my uncle to try to save his life (partial match, didnt take)...pretty serious procedure, but not many chances to save someone's life so I am sure she has no regrets

i would encourage all to join...

it is only a blood test or something to join

before they extract any marrow (the really painful part), they would have done multiple blood and other tests to make sure it makes sense

you are essentially just joining a database in case you are a match for someone who needs a life saving transplant

they then contact you if you ever become a hit and see if you are game

wow, props to everyone on this list... Once it actually gets down to you being able to save someone's life, that's pretty incredible and makes it an easy choice, but registering not so much

the way i think about it, it would make your whole life different if you could save someone else's life for just a week or so of downtime

having a buddy (and then an uncle) both looking for donors made me realize how much you would help the person and their family if you were ever a match

my dad got called in once and got to the second or third round for someone, but was not a close enough match and wasnt asked to do the actual procedure

every year or so they send you a note thanking you for being on the registry, asking to confirm that you still want on it and confirming all your details

if everyone was on there, it could save a lot of lives...
