My season starts Monday via traffic control. 12 hour days, 5 days a weak. I have to travel 60 miles to and from also (120 daily). Bridge painting going on. I have done it before (worked pipelines, flagged 12 hours a day) but man it is getting harder to stand for 12 hours in the cold, rain, hot sun. Pays damn well:103631605. Any of you do the same or close? Also, I can't seem to find the right boots for all these years. I have tried all makes for the most comfort, but no avail. Looking for waterproof, but most comfortable is needed.

Redwings are definitely the best work boots. Great for farmers!

Another vote for Redwings as great work boot. Very comfortable (I was on my feet much of the time for 8-24 hour shifts prior to my desk job days).

Would love to hear more about your highway job...pay, how did you get it, etc

Union Job - Pay around $25-$30 - OT starts after 8 hours of any day - My father worked construction for many years - I have a Masters, but there is no work - I'll take what pays well for now. Just long long long hours standing##) Thankful for the early start and having work:103631605

Redwing's are over rated, get a cheap pair of steel toe's and put in an insert...But then again, you Union fuckers rape us tax payers, so may as well get the Redwings.

Oh and Wolverines are good too.

Actually being non-union is the best way for any prevailing job. You get an extra $10-$12 on top of the hourly rate. I get killed on taxes.

Pathetic. $30 for standing there holding a fucking flag.

Very dangerous in the first place. It is one of the worst jobs in construction to have. No one wants to do it. Damn back, legs, mind all start to go after the first few hours.

IndiansK6 would probably have a heart attack working construction. Or at least fake one online.

I think it would be awful to be the guy standing in the cold holding a flag for 10 hours.

However those road workers are some lazy mfers. Spend a lot of the time standing in groups of 5 watching 1 guy working. I saw this everyday for a long time. Where I come from in construction you don't get paid to stand you get paid to work...and that is what you do all day long. They don't deserve the money they make, even if they have to deal with the cold. Even the guy holding the stick...somebody would do that for 8/hr.

This is not directed the OP he may work his ass off for all I know. It just pisses me off seeing the lazy groups doing nothing making mad loot

Oh and for me Redwings were the most uncomfortable footware I've ever worn. I had to put them on the shelf.

Seriously, these are the best pair of work boots I have worn for the last 6 years..I know they are not technically work boots per say; not steel toe and the toe goes within a year, but they are sooo fucking comfy, like wearing sneakers.

Yea, considering I have worked in construction my whole life.

I am on a 25 million dollar job right now and moving to a 200 million dollar job on May 1st as the Project Engineer.

You don't know shit about me so shut your fucking mouth.

Ditto, it's sickening.

Our concrete crew on this job site I am on now is the same way. 8 guys watching one guy work.

Don't cheap out, you will regret it (IMO).

Redwings with those gel inserts. I've done similar work from time to time, well worth the investment.

ahh...the RW Irish Setter. I bot a pair of these last fall just to kinda kick it in, and just do various chores around the house and hunting lease. They are pretty nice and pretty comfy, cost bout 2 fitty-3. They sell used (seriously used) on ebay for like $75/pair.
The guy that sold them to me has worn them for several years, and the downside is having to get them re-soled.

i'm not an avid fan of manual labor, but i've done my fair share. me and my buddies used to rip houses apart back in college when insurance companies were paying out their ass for the black mold scare!!!

how much are you guys making?
