Anybody know if there is way around internet filtering software? My work uses something called "websense" which blocks certain sites. Oddly enough, therx homepage is blocked, but no the forum.

Take it from a govt. network security specialist. Just suck it up and wait till you get home. They will get you in the end. Whether you connect to an outside proxy or set your computer at home as a server and go through it you will get caught. I used those two examples because I have seen them personally. People can see everything you do if they are looking. Don't lose your job over this forum, not worth it. Those two above were just like you I bet.

peteep - My company uses the same thing and I haven't found a way around it either. Don't know why, but like you said, I can't get to the home page but I can get to the forum.

Generally speaking, you should just not be doing stuff your boss doesn't want you doing on his computer, which he provides to you in order to facilitate your performance of whatever job it is he pays you to do.

That said, because WebSense is user-configurable, there is no universal solution that doesn't involve WMD. Some things which might or might not work, depending on how your company has its account set up (and how your computers are set up for that matter)

Go to BabelFish, enter the URL, and click "Translate from Spanish to English." Unless BabelFish is blocked, this will produce a "copy" of the page within AltaVista's frames, which will not be blocked by WebSense. There is also a similar service from Google here.

or

In the address bar of your browser, enter the following:

<BLOCKQUOTE class="ip-ubbcode-quote"><font size="-1">quote:</font><HR>
http://216.239.57.100/search?q=cache:[url]
<HR></BLOCKQUOTE>

Where is the URL of the page you wish to...ss, and take it with you to work. Phaedrus

Chad's right.

What I did was set up a secure tunnel, so the network guys can only see that I have a secure connection to a remote pc, but they'll only get encrypted data if they try to sniff.

Of course, like Chad said there are a million ways for them to find out if they really want to - ranging from viewing my IE cache, history, etc ... all the way to getting serious enough to install key stroke logging software.

You can't beat them - they have all the tools
