I had an insurance company do that to me one time, Progressive....

I bought insurance for a new car i had gotten, in February, of course u pay the first month, and what i paid was more than what a month was, due to fees (?), it was almost equivalent to (2) months, so i wasnt too shocked when i didnt get a bill beginning in March, but by the end of March i started to wonder, so i called them, they said you premium was due on the 10th of march, u were cancelled on the 24th....I had NEVER GOTTEN A BILL, NEVER GOTTEN A PHONE CALL, even though they had my work and home number....I said i didnt want my insurance cancelled, i never got a bill....They said basically too bad, but then billed me $50.00 for cancelling my insurance.....(charged ME, to cxl ME)..LMFAO

Needless to say they never got that money...My father sold insurance for years, said there is no way they can charge you that and hold you to it....but i guess some people pay it without asking...

Sad that u got charged to cxl a service that didnt work in the first place.....These companies spend million on advertising, and it all gets washed away by word of mouth of one upset customer over as little as 75.00..

AMAZING....

Progressive Insurance;
Let me share my experience with this company. I had them for several years. No problems, except two years ago the rate jumped higher than I thought it should. (I have a 100% clean driving record and my credit record should be fine.) I called the agent and she siad they were all granted a rate increase. Fine I paid it. The next 6 month poilcy came with ANOTHER bit higher rate. I went on-line to see if I could get a cheaper rate for the same coverage. I found a MUCH cheaper rate. First I decided to give Progressive a chance to explain. I sent them an email asking why my rate had AGAIN been increased and was there NO reward for loyalty and safe driving. I recived only a form letter which said nothing! So I again called my local agent to ask if she would look for a company with a cheaper rate. She found the EXACT same company that I had found (Deerbrook Insurance--a division of Allstate with the much cheaper rate.) I swithced. Two weeks ago my policy was again up for renewal I re-uped with Deerbrook. Then here comes a package of information in the mail from Progressive telling me to come back to Progressive--blah blah blah. Must have weighed half pound. ) Folks the bottom line about most big companies is they not only CAN, but WILL rip you off if you don't look around.
Bye Bye Progressive.

way to go omt.....thats the only way to punish companies for screwing us is to take our business elsewhere...then they spend a fortune more to advertise to try and get us back, and to send out the packets like u got, to try and get back a customer, that they already had (before screwing them over)......

You owe it to yourself to ALWAYS shop for insurance at least once a year when it comes to autos. They all have massively complex formulas that are always changing and unless you have an agent you really like the service will all be close to the same. I have switched companies more times than I can count, it is almost like a home refinancing every time I do it there is at least $100 savings for six months, but some times it has been more like $250 savings. Considering it takes about an hour to go through 3 or 4 companies that is about a minimum $200 gain for an hours work. Not bad. And indeed sometimes you go back to the same company, some of them charge you one premium without lowering its price until you leave them. Then 6 months later without your business they suddenly get competitive and drop it down to where you never would have left them in the first place. Probably come on pricing, hoping to lock you in for some time, all the more reason to keep your eyes open.

fish,

i believe most of that rise in price of siri stock was a result of a contract with chrysler to put satelite radio in like 300,000 cars over the next couple years.

sirius also has several sports packages including nfl.

doesnt change the fact that they have shitty customer service though. and bottom line is companies that treat their customers like shit, usually dont last.

RPM,
we had a discussion on SIRI in the stock forum. Look it up, it is interesting reading. The way they have floated their stock it will be next to impossible to make any money on it.

A word of warning about Allstate, and any of its affiliates. If you have them for insurance and cause an accident, you will get sued.

Allstate has a terrible reputation in the legal community. They are so outrageous when negotiating claims, that many attorneys (myself included) simply sue the other driver as soon as we identify Allstate as the insurer. With other insurance companies, we at least try to settle the claim without a lawsuit, and probably settle 75% of all injury claims, and 95% of all property claims easily.

I had a rather comical trial against Allstate recently in small claims court. My client was beginning a right turn. The Allstate driver was speeding, and tried to pass my client on the right (in a one-land road). Allstate denied the claim. We sued the driver, and the driver counterclaimed! The funniest part is that my client had Allstate also. Allstate had to hire 2 attorneys to defend their insureds on a claim they should have paid. When all was said and done, the court found the other driver at fault.

Anyways, don't use Allstate. They are the "antichrist" of insurance companies.
