Any recommendations on a decent Antivirus program. I do not want one that keeps popping up with actions to take but one that works quietly behind the scenes, auotmatically downloads updates etc. I have used Symantec in the past but wondered if there are any better programs. TIA

I have not had any problems since going to Computer associates over three years ago. A tech at the computer store told me last week thatg Kaspersky is the best out at this time, Plenty of free ones-- AVG, never used so don't know.

our IT guy said some of the free ones work fine. Just scares me a little. He told me ADG, Avast, Comodo??

AVG, Spyware Search & Destroy, Ad-Aware.

Norton never finds anything. And it's a memory hog.

If your computer is messed up, might want to try HijackThis.

ESET NOD32---love it, has kept my computer clean, works very well in background (does not take up all your space), updates everytime you log on to internet.

I just use AVG. You can actually get virus's from Ads on webpages just by visiting a page. To help protect against that I suggest you use firefox and get the add-ons adblock plus and noscript.

I use avast and like it but I believe the best free one is AVG. It is wildly popular.

Switched from Norton to this . Pissed I didn't do it sooner. NOD32 is a great AV program.

I agree adding adaware and spybot search and destroy. AVG and Antivir are both good free anti virus. Go to filehippo.com for lots of free downloads.

Probably know less than 99% of the people on here about the computer although i usually buy one a year. I have two notebooks at the office and one at home. Up until two years ago was constantly having virus's and everything else out there that was a detriment to my machines.I took them to a tech that wasrecommended by my computer mfg and they installed Computer Associates. My problems went to zero. I still have to buy one here and there but it is usually a hardware problem. When i was there last week, the tech told me that they no longer used CA ,even thought it was still great, they now strongly recommend Kaspersky. They said it was heads and tails above all the rest and was not that expensive. They thought 49.00.I I still had to buy a new computer because my lcd lite went out and it was cheaper to buy a new one and i went ahead and reinstalled Ca only because i have four months leftn my subscription, then it will be kaspersky.
