Too bad. Another old favorite The Showboat is gone. Strange part for me is I did not even know they changed names. I remember taking my 11 year old step-son to the wrestling matches at the Boat back in the mid eighties. The kid loved them. I recall Hulk Hogan, and some other big names would wrestle there often. We used to bowl once in a while also.

They have been in a hole almost as bad as Becky for awhile. I think a few groups were trying to buy them out, but they owed so much they couldn't accept the offers. In bankruptcy I bet the place gets bought and reopened in a year, maybe Carl Icahn or the Poster Group are the favorites for that. I even heard Ed Roski wants to get it, but with the Silverton growing at the moment he doesn't have the money or attention span to do it at this time.

Hey...we might be losing hotel/casinos left and right, but at least they're talking about reopening the Moulin Rouge and returning it to its former glory...

Of course, this is the dozenth time that Las Vegans have heard that in the last 40 years...and for those who don't know, the Moulin Rouge (which was the first integrated hotel in Las Vegas during a time when black entertainers including Sammy Davis Jr. weren't allowed to stay on the Strip even if they performed there) burned down last May and a new owner is now buying the site and thinks they can make it work.

I remember seeing the last boxing match they did from the showboat. They turned that space into a Bingo parlor. What a joke i thought at the time.

I don't recall the fighters, but i remember Jimmy Montoya from Cal., was the trainer for some of the boxers that nite, and he had a very good stable of boxers at his gym.

It brings back memories. It also reminds me that in sin city, it's not different than anywhere else. It's still the survival of the fittest.

Sad news.

D.Wayne did a great job running their sportsbook, doing everything possible to make it successful. I wonder if he will head back to his start at the Stardust, and work for Bob Scucci.

I wish him great luck. He is a class act.

Very seldom am I taken back by someone but today I had a 45 minute conversation with Tim Poster and he has some great ideas for his place. I am going to sit down with him and his partner early next week and write an article on these guys. It must be really cool to be 35 years old and own the Golden Nugget. Only in America (-;

I knew this place was doomed the day I heard they were changing the name to the Castaways.

Right then and there management showed no respect for of the greatest casinos ever in Vegas, the original OLD Castaways.

I was getting my haircut at the Showboat barbershop when my barber told me the new management was changing the name and I actually fell out of the chair when he told me it was to be the Castaways.

I still have the scars from the razor.

The Showboat was a pretty good place for me to grind out a buck over the years. Many full pay 100%+ video poker plays over the years coupled with some very nice promos and a nice slot card that was pretty good on those triple points days.
