The Titans signed Williams, the 10th overall pick in the 2005 NFL Draft by the Detroit Lions, last Thanksgiving and told him after the season to get his weight and conditioning under control.
Williams weighed around 270 pounds when he signed with Tennessee and lost more than 30 pounds this offseason in an effort to salvage his career.
But conditioning, weight and endurance remained issues for the former University of Southern California star, who had unsuccessfully petitioned the NFL for early entrance into the 2004 draft.
Williams spent two seasons with the Lions, catching 29 passes for 350 yards and a touchdown. He was traded to Oakland during the 2007 draft, but the Raiders released him in October after he dropped a key fourth-down pass against the Titans in a 13-9 loss.

Just goes to show what great coaches and motivators they must have in that SC football program... Cal, ASU, and Oregon too I guess. Very impressive that those staffs could get so much out of guys that have so little talent. Seeing as he was the tenth overall pick, is the proof still in the pudding on draft day, or ws that just the 07 draft?

Actually it shows me how pathetic the defenses in the Pac-10 are (and were) and how pathetic USC's competition was and is. Mike Williams and Dwayne Jarrett was one of the best pass-catching combos in Pac-10 history. Both total busts in the pros.

Actually it was Williams and Colbert, Jarrett and Smith were together. For someone so infatuated with USC, you should know that.

USC hasnt lost to an SEC team in 20 years. Auburn could not even past the 50 against them at home. They beat Arkansas by 50 points 2 years in a row. LSU wont even schedule USC. LSU needed Oregon State to miss a field goal as 20 point home favorites. USC beat Oklahoma by 40 to win the title. Mike Williams is from Florida and gave the SEC the finger. He is not even a SoCal kid.

A lot of times the difference in the NFL is work ethic. Mike Williams had zero work ethic.

And apparently neither does Jarrett. Steve Smith took some shots at him last year about it.

Leinart, Bush, Lendale White, Jarrett, Mike Williams, Winston Justice

Maybe I'm leaving a couple out from the supposed "greatest college offense of all time". How many of these guys above are known for their work ethic. Has a single one exceeded expectations in the pros? Seems to be a pattern for enabled USC players.

Always thought Williams got a raw deal from the NCAA about his eligibility and the draft issue. Doberman is right, he has no work ethic at all.

Another school that turns out busts is Texas. The players just don't seem as hungry when they go to the NFL after the Rock Star treatment for four years.

Actually the competition in the Pac 10 is alot tougher for USC then those Non conference teams they keep crushing the last few years.

This happens with every school...I've also seen a few OU players that I thought would be a hit in the NFL and turned out to be complete busts...And others that weren't even stars for the Sooners make a pretty good career in the pros...It's all hit and miss...And much of it is about work ethic..I would bet that if you took all of the major BCS power schools, the NFL busts would be pretty evenly dispersed among each team..

What the fuck does USC care what they do once they leave

if a program's players are known for being good in the nfl, HS kids are more likely to go to that program

the matt cassel story is a great recruiting tool for SC... the mike williams story, not so much

The only one you can call a bust is Mike Williams. It's too early to call the rest that, and White ran for over 1,000 last year.
