Looking at the NE game, it opened at 8 and closed at 9.5 or 10. Does this mean books get hurt fairly badly if NE covers, or are books simply following the pack. Is it possible that some books didn't have a lot of action on NE but moved the line only because of other books?

Sometimes you have to go with the move even if you don't have that much action on the game. You don't want someone betting 10 dimes at -8 if the whole world is -10 at the time. Depends on the game though.

depends on How big the book is,,, a BIG book can make HUGE dollars just letting the LINE fluctuate,,, and take their cash from the VIG, teasers,,,and PARLAYS,,

A smaller Book will probably jump their lines accordingly trying to keep on the SHARP SIDE of the Numbers,,,,

The Joke ,,, is that I know of some books that will ABSORB a MOVE because a TOP handicapper is on the opposite side of the steam,,,, by doing this they can BAIT in more money,,, on the POTENTIALLY WRONG side by keeping the line "LOOKING WEAK",,,,

Monkey see, monkey do. Many books follow a major line movement at one casino (see Don Best Premium) even if they are not heavy on one particular side and/or toal of a game.

Also, please note a book can and often will move a line on a wager from a sharp bettor of $1000.00 (for example) rather than move their number from a square bettor who bets $10,000.00.

Hope this helps.

THE BOOK WITH THE INITIAL MOVEMENT WOULD LOSE MONEY BUT DEPENDING ON HOW RESPECTED THAT BOOK IS MANY OTHER BOOKS WILL MOVE THIER NUMBER JUST BECAUSE OF THEIR MOVEMENT AND NOT CAUSE OF THE ACTION THEY ARE GETTING.

Pretty much sums up the majority.
