Here's another novelty prop that sounds pretty good. How long will it take Renee Fleming to sing the official US National Anthem? - Under 2 min 25 seconds (-140)

Obviously the juice is high but 2:25 is an eternity. If you just sing the song straight up it's about a 1:20. I found a Lady Gaga version online and she did a good job milking it and it was still only 2:15. I can't see how you could milk another 10 seconds out of it. If the singer was some attention loving performer say like a Rihanna or Niki Minaj I could see them stretching it as long as possible but this singer I would expect to be less inclined to stretch. The one caveat is she's the first opera singer so that could be slower. I hope she's just the glad to be doing it type and not want to make it so long it's ridiculous.

Maybe the powers that be will ask her to stretch it to over expecting the most money on the under. I have faith in honesty and humility and that can only mean under 2:25.

this chick is an opera singer who can hold notes. I think the factor will be the weather and if she's able to sustain notes in the cold

I took this a step further and looked at no less than 8 performers and only Aretha Franklin got close to the 2:25 and she repeated "The Brave" at the end 3 times holding them all. As for opera singers I searched for opera singers singing the anthem and the girl doing the bowl wasn't there. There were others and I checked 4 the opera singers were ALL where under 2 minutes the longest was actually a male opera singer and singing slow in that style is rather unbearable. He still only did 1:50. After hearing the Opera singers I feel even more confident. I know it's all chance but just like we look for info on the game this is solid info on song length. If I lose at least I know it won't be a pick 6 or a stupid fumble happening unexpectedly. Remember there are shorter times that have less juice so the 2:25 is an increase over the even odds number. I know people will think I'm stupid but I'm more confident in this under than I am in the game which for me will be Seattle.

So you think my reasoning is stupid. Some guys think if it isn't a sports bet it dosen't count. Did I say they just threw this out there? I said it's generous and that's why it's (-140).
A lot of the props are obvious but the odds are too high to make it worth while. I think this is obvious and although the juice is up it isn't ridiculous

I have plenty of beer so I'll take my chances.

if she's cold, she'll shorten it up.

check out what she's wearing and if the grin on her face is because she's toasty, or colder than shit.

did she ever sing the anthem before?

I think you make some good arguments Johnny. Funny tho...I have hit the last 3 or 4 National Anthem over/unders so I do look for it as a viable bet. And it is fun and exciting to be timing the song.

I hit Christine Augliera over a few years back...but the line was around 2:08 or so I think.

But then I found this video on You Tube. It is Fleming singing "Amazing Grace" at the 9/11 memorial dedication. Wow. She is the slowest singer I have ever heard.

You should watch it. If Fleming sings the National Anthem even remotely like she sang this song...the game may never start!

Now I wonder if the books put out the high total line just to sucker the bettors to the under despite the high juice.

Fleming starts singing the song around the 1:00 minute long. Consider me scared of the under.

Beautiful... but way to slow.... I was falling asleep! But Rene Flemming is AMAZING!!!

I think the National Anthem goes OVER 2:25.......

Something about opera singers, they really draw their words out....:howdy:

OK I get it opera singers are slow ....... but 2:25 is extra slow. If you read what I wrote above you'll see what I found in samplings. I've taken the slow thing into consideration.
I'm sure there are renditions that topped 2:25 but try to find one. If you have to look through 10 or more clips to find one doesn't that tell you 2:25 is not a usual time. I only found one. This info is like the info we get capping games. You can always find arguments pointed to the other side but when comparing over 2:25 performances to under 2:25 it's not even close. Even sampling opera singers.

As for Renee Flemming there's no You Tube of her singing the SSB. I listened to the Amazing Grace rendition but that song is suppose to be slow and singing it at a memoriam to 911 only underlines being slow out of respect. The SSB isn't a slow song so it won't be that sobering.

I've added a different opera singer actually singing the SSB. This is some slow singing, in fact painfully slow yet it's still only 2 minutes. With opera type singing I just can't imagine the producers not saying don't make the length ridiculous.

I don't think people understand how long 2:25 is. Listen to this slow OPERA singer (even the camera man loses interest at the beginning) can you imagine this lasting another 25 seconds? I'll be surprised if Renee tops 2:15 to be honest.
