Up to a Cat 4 already & the pressure has set a new record low at 882mb. Too early to know where, but it looks like Florida is in for some serious damage. If the storm takes a southern track, Miami-KC is probably a write off (not that it will matter in the larger scope of things).

Is it winter yet?

I have always thought Tampa, St. Pete, Clearwater would be the worst place for any hurricane to hit in Florida. The flooding would be similar to New Orleans.

Living as I do in Clearwater Beach, literally have to cross TWO bays to become inland again.

First over a bridge to get from Clearwater BEACH to Clearwater.....and then another 6-7 miles of driving before crossing a 12 mile long bridge across the bay to get back into inland Tampa.

Your right, a major hurricane here would be DEVASTATING...........especially considering the amount of high rise condos and the amount of people in the area.

The projections I've seen have it making landfall around Category 3..

Off-topic, but I went to Clearwater (Sheraton Sand Key) must have been 6-8 years ago now... I remember a "PJ's Oyster Bar" which I frequented most nights.. possibly St Pete's.. wonder if that's still there..

Hmmmm, not sure.

Although only a few miles from me, very seldom cross the Sand Key bridge.

Know where the Sheraton is though.

Fishhead,

you should probably make weekend travel plans NOW and prepare to get out. I am probably going to drive to Durham for the weekend and watch Florida St- Duke. I have no interest in hanging around here, its expected to be category two when it hits the east coast and I live maybe 2 miles from the ocean. I am outta here. Last year a guy said the power was out around here for a week after a near miss from one of the hurricanes and it was miserable.

I booked a hotel in Durham 5 mins ago in case I need it, if the storm veers far enough away from Jax I'll stay, but I'm pretty sure I'm outta here this weekend. And your on the front lines over there.

No reason to risk it, get out and early to avoid traffic

Fish, If I were you I'd get out ASAP just to be safe. If it goes the slightest bit north the I-4 corridor is takin a "charlie" again. I live in Daytona Beach and its Biketober fest with 250,000 extra people here visiting. I'm hopin that the right turn Wilma makes is a hard one. Good luck and Godbless. Apple :howdy:
