Here is the problem....... Everytime I open some programs (My pictures, my documents, my computer, control panel, among others) I get a error message......Data execution Prevention- Microsoft Windows To help protect your computer, windows has closed this program.........Then I have to click close message and it closes the program. I thought it might be a isolated problem on my computer, but now I heard from a friend that he has the same problem. Any suggestions?

Well, the easy solution is to uninstall Win XP service pack 2. If you don't want to do that, things get a little complicated.

There is a "workaround" in this technote http://support.microsoft.com/kb/875351

There are some disadvantages to uninstalling it, but nothing that I'd worry about IF you have a firewall on your machine. If you don't, then you could potentially be opening yourself up to some security issues.

I just realized that you can't uninstall it anyhow (since control panel shuts down on you).

Here is how you can disable DEP

Click Start, Run.
Enter Attrib C:\Boot.ini -r -h -s
Click Start, Run
Enter Notepad C:\Boot.ini

Under [operating systems] replace the parameter /NoExecute=xxxxx with /Execute

Save the Boot.ini file
Click Start, Run
Enter Attrib C:\Boot.ini +r +h +s
Restart the computer

That should eliminate your problem

Install SP2 and your machine will sing again. From reading your posts I can so no disadvantage to installing SP2. Plus install microsoft-anti spyware beta and run it too. The cool thing about both these fixes is that they are both free.
