Angels pitcher Nick Adenhart was one of three people killed early Thursday morning in a hit-and-run crash in Fullerton.

The crash took place only hours after the 22-year-old pitcher played in last night's Angels game.

Police say the driver of a minivan ran a red light in Fullerton and struck two cars, killing three people in a Mitsubishi and critically injuring a passenger.

Police Lt. Craig Brower says the minivan driver fled the crash scene and was captured a short time later. The driver was arrested and booked for investigation of felony hit-and-run.

Police say the van ran the red light early Thursday and struck the gray Mitsubishi, which then slammed into a light pole. Two people in the Mitsubishi died instantly, and a third died at a hospital a short time later.

A fourth occupant was in critical condition at UC Irvine Medical Center in
Orange.

Nick Adenhart, a rookie pitcher for the Los Angeles Angels, died in a hit-and-run car crash early Thursday morning, just hours after pitching in a game in Anaheim.

<!--END INLINE MUG--> University of California, Irvine Medical Center spokesman John Murray said Adenhart died after undergoing surgery.
Adenhart, 22, was one of three people killed in the crash just after midnight local time, after pitching in a loss against the Oakland Athletics. He got a no-decision after six scoreless innings, giving up seven hits, striking out five and walking three in just his fourth major league start.
The driver of a minivan ran a red light in Fullerton and hit two cars. According to the Los Angeles Times, two people were pronounced dead at the scene, and two were taken to a hospital. The fourth person is reported to be seriously injured.
The Times reported that the minivan's driver ran from the scene, but was arrested about a mile away.

Adenhart, a 6-foot-3, 185-pounder from Silver Spring, Md., made his major league debut on May 1, 2008. He has spent most of his time since with Triple-A Salt Lake, but got his break this year with a good spring training and the fact the team needed help in the starting rotation, with John Lackey, Ervin Santana and Kelvim Escobar all starting on the disabled list.

how sad......to go from one of the highs of his life, to this, in a matter of hours, not to mention the 2 other young people with him who also died, because another person decided to get behind the wheel under the influence, after having been cited numerous times in the past for the same thing.......

Game is cancelled for tonight.

The Angels organization has gone through a number of tragedies:

Preston Gomez consultant, killed in January. Team wearing a memorial patch now.
Matt Keough
Donnie Moore
Lyman Bostock
Mike Miley
Chico Ruiz
Minnie Rojas

All passed away while with the Angels.

Confirmed drunk driver.

A real shame, hopefully that scumbag spends the rest of his life in a maximum security prison.
Agreed! Drunk driver driving on a suspended license from a previous DUI.

I hope he spends the rest of his natural life being Bubba's little bitch!!!!

i happen to personally know a couple guys in the MLB and have met numerous angels over the years, although i never met this kid. that being said, i cant remember any of them who didnt roll in an SUV. not saying that it would have made a difference, but it may have. i choose to drive only full size trucks and SUVs (and wear my seatbelt) because of idiots like this drunk. being in a small car like that and getting popped by a van, thats frightening. tragic
