So, life seems a little bit better today than it did a week ago. A big weight has been lifted off my shoulders. A lot of people have been calling me to say congrats. I even got an email from a prof of mine who somehow found out. Pretty cool stuff.

Haven't made any big purchases yet. I went shopping to try to find new clothes but didn't find anything I liked. I did buy some new boxers though....what a way to celebrate!

I have initiated the payout process with bluegrass. I spoke to Diego who was helpful and dealt with my request in a professional manner. Although I don't have the money in my hands yet, I trust that everything will run smoothly. I would have liked to get a neteller payout but didn't want to fork over the 2% fee. That means I will have to wait a little longer I guess. Bluegrass seems to employ the "we book it, we lose, we pay" philosophy from what I have read.

I will say one thing, as soon as the funds are in my hands I will most certainly promote bluegrass to no end. My goal is to generate at least 40k(my win amount) in post-ups for them by letting people know how classy of a book they are.

I finally told my girlfriend over dinner on Sunday. Obviously, she was excited.

I can't wait to walk into the bank and pay off my student line of credit. That will be a sweet feeling.

Thanks Florida, and although the whole process isn't completely wrapped up, I trust I will be able to say a BIG thank you to bluegrass.

Cheers

If you can show a primary source of income other than "gambling" all sports wagering earnings are considered a windfall and therefore not subject to income tax. Check with Revenue Canada on your specific situation though.

I hear the Sundowner is still waiting for you

I can be a welfare case in Canada, win the loto 649 and NOT be subject to tax. it would only be in very specific cases where you are categorized as a "Professional Gambler" as primary income that you would have to deal with taxes ......and I do not know of any cases personally.

I'm really happy for you. But you are far from collecting this money still. Don't celebrate yet, although it doesn't look too bad.

For some reason, because you're a young student, and you have grown with this group here and people know you and like you, and have grown attached to you with you and your Marlins bet, and have followed it with you, that for some reason, I just have a feeling that even if BG did stiff you, that some strong book would come in here and give you some sort of bailout deal where you would play it over like 20-30 times, so it's not like your money would be gone anyways..

That is just my opinion.. Congrats.. and fill us in when you get paid.. take care.

I'm going to go out on a limb here and totally disagree with SG - I think you can rely on BG to pay you. Peteep: you will know shortly what the facts are - please post them. Thank you.

p.s. I am sometimes amazed that people will think a decent book like BG will try to stiff a player on a $40,000 win yet the same book probably actually MADE money once the ever-present Yankee bettors dumped their wallets on the series.

Ted, if you're reading this, feel free to comment - some apparently think you're too bogus to pay a winner - that the case?

Peteep, here's how a UWO student should spend thirty-four grand....

1. Have a bar installed in your crib. Stock it well.
2. Hire the biggest keener in your program to give you his notes, write your essays and reports and tutor you before tests and exams so you can skip every class for the rest of the year and party.
3. Acquire a half-pound or so of very good hash.
4. Throw out your alarm clock.
5. Work out an allowance for your girlfriend to pre-empt any nagging associated with you blowing her off 3 nights a week to hang with your buddies/chase other skirts.
6. Put a bounty on the head of an engineer, any engineer.
7. Visit your favourite sorority house and offer to donate some money to charity on behalf of the sorority if they give you a personal mud-wrestling extravaganza.
8. Get yourself a hard drive with over 100 gigs for your 25,000-song mp3 collection, courtesy of your Napster-jonesing pals.
9. Grease the palms of every bouncer in town and never have to stand in line again.
10. Sammy souvlaki, every night.

Peteep - Can we assume that you got paid ok? Best advertising in the world for Bluegrass, so I couldn't imagine you having any problems...

Hopefully Intertops will come around and pay their player - it's hard for me to imagine Intertops accepting and confirming a bet that they know they had no obligation/intention to pay...

from 911 (I suppose I need the proper Sting disclaimer - "assuming his info is correct"!!!

10.31.03 (11:02 am EST) - Report: Intertops failure to pay a 140k winner from the world series? Word has it kid made a 1k wager on the marlins before the season and won the wager worth 140k, Intertops supposedly only wants to pay 100k screwing the kid (he is 21) out of 40k.

How exactly is Intertops screwing this kid??? Almost every sportsbook has the same rule that Intertops did - I actually do feel for the kid, but for crying out loud, the rule is crystal clear, so I repeat, how is Intertops screwing the kid?

Rule 1.4 The maximum dollar amount that may be won by an individual customer, syndicate or partners on a weekly basis is one hundred thousand (100,000.00) dollars U.S. currency or the equivalent in the currency of your Intertops.com betting account. This maximum shall apply independently of the number of wagers placed or pending, or the amount wagered or pending, and it shall be incumbent upon the customer to ensure that his/her weekly return does not exceed the said limit.

Without limiting the generality of the foregoing, Intertops.com reserves its rights to limit any account or group of accounts controlled by an individual customer, syndicate or partners, to a weekly maximum of one hundred thousand (100,000.00) dollars U.S. currency or equivalent, and to debit any account or group of accounts which have been credited a weekly amount in winnings of more than one hundred thousand (100,000.00) dollars U.S. currency or equivalent.

Any parlay or future bet shall be judged to have been placed during the week of the result of the last event in the parlay or future bet(s).

I find it hard to believe Sting is that naive. I'd also like to point out this 'kid' who just happened to have an extra grand to lay on a season-long futures should have read the damn rules. However, it's only his expectations dashed as long as he didn't have the bankroll to hedge that win, in which case he definitely is out some expected profit having lost the Yankees hedge (and any Cubs hedges he might have taken). Would I have liked it? Fvck no, but then it wouldn't have happened to me, because I know the rules and play accordingly. I could care less how old this 'kid' was, either - if he's old enough to bet, he's old enough to take responsibility for knowing the rules at a book before placing a bet - and this rule was there long before he made that bet.
