Your 17 times more at risk of a heart attack if you just exercised, over someone who was just sitting on the couch!!!

I know its one of those strange stats that actually has an underlying meaning but its still somewhat alarming!

Wow, this would make one think to much after a good workout. Soon as I get off the bike or treadmill, Im going straight to the couch.

It's quite logical actually. I mean, if you have all the risk factors for heart disease like high cholesterol, high blood pressure, low fitness level etc., when would you expect to get a heart attack? After you have just put strain on your heart or at some other random time?

And if you spend more than 17 times the amount of time sitting on the couch as you do exercising, then you are still more likely to get the heart attack on the couch than in connection with the exercise. The statement probably compares equal time intervals.

Typically when something like this gets announced it gets slightly modified by people who don't appreciate exactly what the statistics mean and by the fourth person to get the info. it has become "you are 17 times better off sitting on the couch than exercising"

This is one of those statistics that falls under the category, "by idiots... for idiots."

As I said, it is a somewhat misleading statistic, but frankly it is scary none the less..I never for a second ever dreamed of dropping dead while exercising...

If I drop dead working out well fvck it then, if thats the lousy cards fate hands me then I will take my body and go to the grave (not like I have much choice)

Actually I would rather be dead than some fat slob, I couldn`t stand to look in the mirror at some tub of goo...

It doesn`t bode well for my goal of living to be 135 though...I`m not about to give up, but if its time well, I guess its not much I can do about it..I hope if I do have an exercise related heart attack I am in the company of someone who can get me to the hospital, studies show you have 10 minutes to get your heart restarted...that isn`t very encouraging

Jman that has to apply for people that JUST have begun exercising and are going WAY over there limit...I was at the gym the other day and what looked like a 500lb guy was taken out on a gurney

worked out to hard....you should always start SLOW!!

You mean if I exert pressure on my heart by exercising I have a greater chance of a heart attack than not like sitting on a couch? DUH!

what if i am doing both?

say - having sex on the couch. this qualifies as exercise (or at least the way i do it -

) and i am on the couch.

so would this be the best way to go about it?

Time-out for the lighter side:

"You're 268 times more at risk of getting flattened crossing the street after downing a fifth in a bar, over someone drinking a fifth at home."

Time-in: Here's wishing everyone the best of health.
