Am I crazy or is this the perfect cure for NFL overtime?

Overtime in the NFL sucks. It's not exciting at all. 1st team to get to the 30 yard line does 3 run plays and kicks a FG. Boring. Both teams need a fair shake and it has to be exciting to watch. Here is the cure that I have heard not one person talk about on TV, radio, or anywhere.

First team to score a touchdown wins. No FG's. Just touchdowns. No more ties in the NFL, hell you can't even tie in hockey anymore. Just play until a touchdown is scored. It has it all...

-Fair for both teams
Quite frankly, if you lose the toss and give up a touchdown then you don't deserve the ball.

-Exciting
Imagine the scenarios. 4th and goal from the 2. Trying to pound the ball in for the win. 4th and 11 from the 20. Trying to convert because you can no longer kick a FG.

-What if the weather makes it nearly impossible to get into the end zone. (Pitt over Miami 3-0 etc.)
In the case of a tie at the end of one 15 minute overtime quarter we would then begin to allow FG's. The opposite team that got the ball at the end of regulation would now get it in the 2nd OT. However, I wouldn't allow kick-offs. I would place the ball on thier own 25 yard line.

Would this not be perfect or am I missing something???

I like it but where is the ball placed after a four and out ending on the two yard line?

The two. Its like a regular game but you just can't kick a field goal. You can punt etc. Just get in the endzone.

...another suggestion for OT for Las Vegas

...Dog wins @ 0.00 in the 4th. :103631605
...remember several this has chapped me & my wallet. maybe the worst was sometime in the 80's, had Raiders + 4.5- 5.5 @ KC, Raiders had ball in fg range, pick 6 by James Hasty, just as I hung up w/my book placing losing wagers based off my biggest win (I thought) of the year.

I don't like it. FGs are part of the game - you can't eliminate rules just because the game goes into OT.

My solution would be for each team to get the ball once - from a kick-off.

Team A kicks the ball off to team B and then Team B gets to run their offense. When they score or turn the ball over, then Team B kicks off to Team A. The team with the higher score after both drives is the winner. If the score is tied, then it becomes sudden death - next score wins.

First - they wont change it.

Second - i like your theory except, but I think it should be altered. I think both teams should get the ball (like ncaa) but you should have to kick off. I would just eliminate punting. Then you would still have your excitement of 4th and whatever, and if they dont get it.... they just kick off.

Thats BS. Cause if I get a safety it dont mean jack.

They need to just play out a whole quarter. F the who scores first garbage. Play out the whole 15 mins, if it ties, do it again and again, and again.

I say just convert to college overtime, it's exciting and (more) fair. Except I'd give each team the ball at the 50 so they at least have to move the ball a little bit to be in field goal range.

I don't like it. The Eagles and Bengals would still be playing as we speak. The college OT rules are best.

IMO, keep the old OT rule with only exception:
If a FIRST offensive team (team wins a coin toss may give up its right as CFB) scores on FIRST possesion then give other team a chance.

Do away with the extra point altogether -- force teams to go for the two point conversion every time. There'd be a lot less ties. Having the extra point kick as an option only has strategic relevance when a team can also elect for the two point conversion. The extra point kick in the pre-2 point conversion era seems suspiciously like a relic of the infancy of the game when maybe the kick was only made 80% of the time, lol. Now that it's made 98% of the time (guessing), it's kind of silly. It's the NBA equivalent of after a player is fouled while making the shot, letting him stand right next to the basket for a lay up instead of the foul line -- a 98% shot. Yet people don't complain of what a pointless gimic the extra point is. The game would be more exciting without the extra point. Sure, you get a mild jump in the stomach when you really need an extra point late in the game -- a 2% jump only, though, as compared to the 98% jump you get when you're rooting for or against a 2 point conversion.

now THAT is fucking interesting. I would tout this until the world ends. The problem with having extended OT or having EXTRA time added after regulation or an OT is that players in the NFL hit pretty damn hard and ur looking at a lot of ankle sprains and injuries in general probably.

With the 2pt conv on every TD... that doesn't take away from the game other than maybe 5 or 6 "extra" plays instead of a series of plays (which might end up being 8 plays or more). This idea is genius imo. but betting might get a little crazy... fun, but crazy. i'd probably only bet $10 cuz i'd be afraid of scams lol.

The NFL insisted that they re not involve with pointspread or gambling, indeed they don't want an extra "5th" qt because of the TD or TDs will screw their intentions. The only way will make them(lines makers) happy that NFL uses soccer shootout rules to see the outcome:
1st OT both side have the ball at 35' (52 yards FG) to determine a winner.
2nd OT can be used if both team made FGs, but ball will be placed at 45' (62yrds FG woooow) and made FG only counted as 1 pts to get the W.
Let's go for underdogssss:103631605

My ot solution

IF THE 1st TEAM WITH THE BALL SCORES A FIELF GOAL , THE OTHER TEAM CANNOT GET A FG AND MUST SCORE A TD.

IF 1st TEAM SCORES A TD THEY MUST KICK THE EXTRA POINT , THE OTHER TEAM HAS TO SCORE A TD AND GO FOR 2 PT CONVERSION.

IF FIRST TEAM SCORES A SAFETY , THEY HAVE TO KICK OFF TO THE OTHER TEAM WHICH HAS THE OPTION TO KICK A FG OR SCORE A TD.

MAY PLAY HAVOC WITH TOTALS PLAYERS BUT A MUCH MORE INTERESTING OVER TIME IN MY OPINION , PLUS YOU GIVE THE OTHER TEAM TO WIN THE GAME. ITS ONLY FAIR .

tommy, in your scenario... it's basically better to forfeit the cointoss or go on defense first then. interesting--but i don't think it would work in reality.

do not think the NFL is looking to change anything soon. But I would love to see something a little more exciting & different.
