At least in games where there is a legit chance of overtime, the under always risks overtime.

I have won two overs in NBA in the past week solely because of overtime.

I hear that sharps mostly play unders, any truth to that?

as with all overs public bias does move the line further up, but sometimes, not always, and in some cases with defensive teams such as detroit the public might even bias the line towards the under.

Not a sharp hoops bettor myself in any way, just a fairly good one when i take the time, but i d say that sharps dont have any particular preference on the overs or unders, and play less totals than sides.

Hammy best advice you will every get is right now.

If you do not like a game under, do not bet it.

Your pockets will be fuller in the long run staying away from overs.

Sorry Ham, I have to disagree with that philosophy.Your right about the overtime issue, but there's risk in everything. Sometimes there are strong unders that come along, much like the one including Dallas and Sac~town the other night, where many of us down in the NBA forum liked the under.

Hache, thanks. I would like to hear if and why sharps play mostly unders. If so, then do they lay off games with low spreads that have a higher prob of going into OT. thanks

Not sure Ham why they would prefer more unders than overs, you make a valid point about the OT. Have you looked into this past years o/u results to see if you can find anywhere how balanced the o/u's were, as in which one finished higher %~wise.

Hache, I would guess that a high percentage, at least 80% of OT games also go over the total. It is even more true on halftime total plays.

What I mean is ham, do you know of any software you use that might give us the totals of unders vs. the total of overs this past year, and last few years.

There is a question being asked that no one has answered...and that is...

What is the historical over/under ratio of NBA game totals?

Overtime is like 17-1 or something I think...
Its probably lower this time of year though...

in the past ive tried to factor in the o.t. element when betting totals....i would assume a game with a line of 3 or less had a better chance of going into o.t. than say a -9...

but IMO o.t. shouldnt be a factor in your decision on whether to bet ov/un.....

but i will say this........."sharps" tend to have a field day betting nba totals, especially early in the season...

Early on there was belief that the zone defense would alter the o/u 's , but if we could get the info and stats of the past couple seasons and compare them, I almost guarantee you there wasnt much change.

Free throws are such a factor at the end of not only NBA games , but also NCAA. Usually,if a team does not have a comfortable lead at the end of a game and the points are on an average basis, your under is definitely in jeopardy of going over every single time.
