Here are today's selections:

5 Units <?xml:namespace prefix = st1 ns = "urn:schemas-microsoft-com:office:smarttags" />Pittsburg -5 -107<?xml:namespace prefix = o ns = "urn:schemas-microsoft-com:office:office" />

Rutgers (4-2) had a tough week, as three football players were injured, one seriously, in a multi-vehicle accident. Safety Dondre L. Asberry suffered a spine fracture and head injuries in the accident Saturday and remained in critical condition Monday. Cornerbacks Leslie Collins and Eddie Grimes sustained head and facial injuries. None were starters. On the field, Rutgers tried to give one away against Temple as it committed five turnovers in a 16-6 win last week. Ryan Hart finished 18 of 30 for 191 yards with three interceptions and a touchdown while Brian Leonard rushed for 79 yards on 19 carries. The Scarlet Knights were averaging 28 points per game but due to sloppy play they couldn’t take advantage of a defense that gave up 70 points to Bowling Green earlier in the season. They might have been flat after a miracle comeback win at Vanderbilt the week before. Pittsburgh upset BostonCollege 20-17 in overtime and survived some more questionable coaching decisions by conservative coach Walt Harris who decided not to take a chance to win it in the final moments of regulation time. The Panthers staunch defense which allows only 3.3 yards per carry and has kept them in every game this season had two goal-line stands. Quarterback Tyler Palko keeps improving as 131 yards and ran for a touchdown. Pitt could be in for a slight letdown. The Panthers won last year’s meeting by a 42-32 score. The visitor has covered five of the last six in this series.

The Drew Tate era is officially underway. The slick sophomore has put together back to back sensational efforts in leading the Hawkeye’s to blowout wins over <?xml:namespace prefix = st1 ns = "urn:schemas-microsoft-com:office:smarttags" />Michigan State and Ohio State. But while Iowa continues to be a home field monster (23-2 SU, 21-4 ATS) the Hawkeye’s have not been nearly so fearsome on the road (2-5 Su, 3-4 ATS the last 7 road game). Iowa's two trips away from their friendly confines this season have resulted in ugly losses, as they were blown out at Arizona State and convincingly beat at Michigan, though the Hawkeye’s were able to sneak out a backdoor cover at Ann Arbor. Tate will have to be on top of his game again this Saturday at Penn State, as the visitors are now down to a fifth string tailback! The latest casualty is Marques Simmons, who sprained an ankle last Saturday. That means Sam Brownlee will now have to shoulder the load this weekend. But there are no problems at WR, where Ed Hinkel and Clinton Solomon are each producing solid numbers. Penn State is hoping for some offensive consistency from QB Zack Mills, who needs to be successful airing it out, given the likely lack of Penn State run production against Iowa's tough overland defense. Iowa has won and covered five of the last six in this series, but the scheduling dynamics plus Iowa's dicey RB situation favor the Nittany Lions. Penn State is just 3-6 ATS the last 9 as a favorite, but look for Penn State to squeeze out a low scoring win at home.

No rest for the wicked, or should we say the terrible. Mississippi State (1-5 SU, 1-4 ATS) is coming off the bye week and faces Florida (4-2 SU, 4-2 ATS). Last week, Florida rolled over MTSU, 52-16 SU. QB sensation, Chris Leak, added 3 more TD's to his total (15). For the year, Leak has already tossed for over 1,500 yards. He is everything they said and more. Unfortunately, the rest of the team, including the game day coaching, is nothing but question marks, which is why they have 2 losses. Florida should have no problem pounding on State this week. State is only giving up 170 yards a game through the air. That number is low only because most teams have not needed to pass. State is allowing 186 yards a game on the ground. Florida will certainly up that average since the Gators are averaging 270 yards passing and 35 points a game on the arm of their QB. This is only Florida's second Road game and State has had 2 weeks to prepare for Florida's attack. Also keep in mind that Mississippi State quarterback, Omar Conner, has been out with a knee injury. Conner MAY be back this week, but his status is unknown and his ability was not near the level of Leak's even when healthy.

The Gary Crowton farewell tour makes a stop in <?xml:namespace prefix = st1 ns = "urn:schemas-microsoft-com:office:smarttags" />Colorado Springs this week. AFA has dominated this series lately, winning 5 of 7 outright, covering 6! BYU went into the Wyoming game with the 2nd worst rushing offense in the nation, but were in the perfect spot and rushed for 237 yards...as we called for a Cougar win and cover on these pages. This week, it's back to the norm. The Cougars have rushed for just 273 yards on 108 carries (2.5 YPR) in three road games. Take away their 207 yards at CSU, and they've rushed for just 66 yards on 62 carries in their other two roadies. Air Force had a couple of tough losses at Utah and against Navy, but rebounded last time out with a 28-23 win over New Mexico. DeBerry has had 2 weeks to prepare his improving offense for the BYU <st1:date Month="3" Day="3" Year="2005">3-3-5</st1:date>, and will cash for the 7th time in 8 tries against the Cougars!

Understand this about Florida State: The Seminoles are 4-0 SU/3-1 ATS at home where they're outscoring opponents by a 37-12 average. But on the road, they're 1-1 SU, 0-2 ATS, getting outscored by a 15-14 average. Their last road game, FSU was a 19-point favorite at Syracuse and they won 17-13, coming close to losing when they stopped a last second Orangemen drive. Florida State is off an emotional showdown with ACC rival Virginia, whipping the previously unbeaten Cavaliers, 36-3! The trick here is that Wake Forest likes to run the football, but FSU is allowing just 58 yards rushing per game, 1.58 yards per carry!!! Wake Forest (3-3) is playing good ball, losing 27-21 at NC State as a +11 dog and the last game, 17-10, on this field against Virginia Tech. Wake is averaging 221 rushing yards each game (4.5 ypc), though the 'D' is allowing 170 rushing yards per game (4.4 ypc). Wake is <st1:date Month="6" Day="9" Year="2001">6-9-1</st1:date> ATS its last 16 home games and they lost 48-24 at FSU last season, making this a tough one to call. Still, Florida State's ground game and run defense will make it tough for the home team, so with all that running, don't look for a shootout.

Nebraska (4-2 SU, 2-3 ATS) made a big turn-around Saturday when they rebounded from a 70-10 loss to Texas Tech and handed Baylor a 59-27 defeat. Tech's Joe Dailey threw for five touchdowns and a school-record 342 yards on 13-of-20 passing. Brandon Jackson added two scores and 89 yards on the ground for Nebraska while Isaiah Fluellen registered 72 yards receiving and two touchdowns on just two catches. The Huskers compiled 511 yards in the victory, while Baylor, which lost its 10th straight Big 12 outing, finished with 400 yards. Kansas State kept the score close against Oklahoma Saturday but still managed to lose 30-20 at a 20-point dog. QB Dylan Meier went 20-of-38 for 242 yards with one touchdown and no interceptions for K-State (2-4, 0-3), which has dropped three in a row. RB Darren Sproles, who entered the year as a Heisman candidate, was held to 34 yards on 13 carries. Kansas State has won the last two meetings, 38-9 a year ago so the Huskers should be looking for some vengeance. But Nebraska is just 1-6 SU, <st1:date Month="1" Day="5" Year="2001">1-5-1</st1:date> ATS its last 7 games as a dog. With all the running expected, don't look for a high scoring game, either.

5 Units NC State UNDER 40 -102 <?xml:namespace prefix = o ns = "urn:schemas-microsoft-com:office:office" />

The Miami Hurricanes (5-0 SU, 3-2 ATS) are off a wild 41-38 comeback win over <?xml:namespace prefix = st1 ns = "urn:schemas-microsoft-com:office:smarttags" />Louisville. It doesn't get any easier here against NC State's tough defense. This is an ACC battle between newcomer Miami (2-0 in ACC) and NC State (3-1). The Miami offense is averaging 34 points, 145 yds rushing, 210 yds passing pg, and the solid defense allows just 12.8 points per game (123 yards rushing, 3.15 yds per rush and 150 passing per game.) Senior QB Brock Berlin and power RB Frank Gore lead the offense. Miami is 2-0 SU, 1-1 ATS on the road this season and 20-2 SU, 13-9 ATS its last 22 road contests. Miami is 3-0 ATS its last three games against NC State, though the Hurricanes are 10-17 ATS the last 27 games as a favorite. NC State (4-2 SU, 2-3 ATS) is more defensive oriented this season, holding opponents to 15 ppg. Last week they won 13-3 at Maryland. Miami and NC State are a combined 6-3 UNDER the total and that's the way to look at this game: ALL DEFENSE! The NC State offense is averaging 178 yards rushing, 191 passing behind erratic junior QB Jay Davis (4 TDs, 5 INTs) and junior RB T.A. McLendon. Last week, McLendon played two snaps because of an injured hamstring. He carried once for 9 yards, though he's expected back for this game. NC State is 0-2 ATS at home this season and 7-12 ATS its last 19 home games. Look for more defense than offense.

Bumbling Ball State (1-6 SU, 2-5 ATS) is a mess. That 41-14 upset at Western Michigan was clearly a mirage, because Ball State is 0-3 SU/ATS since, surrendering 52, 31 and 51 points! Ball State's offense is averaging 2.6 yards per rush and the defense is awful, surrendering 39 points, 169 yards rushing and 305 passing per game! Akron (3-4 overall, 3-1 in the MAC) has played only 2 home games and 5 road games, so coming home will be a welcome breather here. Akron has a strong offensive punch in QB Charlie Frye and RB Brett Biggs (150 rushing yards last week in a 26-21 win at Central Florida). Akron has had a strong balanced offense the last two weeks with 172 and 166 rushing yards in wins over Buffalo and Central Florida. Against Ball's poor defense, look for the Zips to score a bundle in this one-sided game.

Both teams are off impressive games. Tulsa doesn't have many wins (1-5 SU, 2-3 ATS) but they do have a dynamite QB in James Kilian. Tulsa was a 20-point home dog to mighty Boise, but Boise's Antwaun Carter scored on a 2-yard run with less than two minutes remaining and they added a 46-yard field goal with three seconds to rally No. 21 Boise State to a 45-42 victory over Tulsa. Tulsa's James Kilian threw three touchdown passes, including a 23-yarder to Cory Hathaway, to give Tulsa the lead in the fourth quarter. Kilian ran for two more scores for the Golden Hurricane. "There are a lot of guys hurting right now because it was a game we felt like, going into the game, we could have won," Tulsa coach Steve Kragthorpe said. "As the game unfolded, it was a game we felt like we could win." Garrett Mills caught eight passes for 139 yards for Tulsa. Nevada (3-4) ended a 3-game skid with a rousing 35-10 rout of favored Rice last week. QB Jeff Rowe passed for 168 yards and WR Nichiren Flowers had eight catches for 90 yards. Nevada is an impressive 3-0 SU, 2-0 ATS at home where they are outscoring foes by a 44-10 average! Look for a lot of points in this shootout.

7 Units Hawaii -22.5 -110

San Jose State is struggling and they are particularly awful on the road (0-3 SU, 1-2 ATS). The Spartans are getting outscored by a 33-8 average on the road. And this is a bad time to be travelling all the way to Hawaii. Hawaii (2-3) is off another bad road game, losing 51-20 at UTEP. However, Hawaii is 2-1 SU/ATS at home where the offense is averaging 476 yards and they are outscoring opponents by a 40-26 average on the Island! San Jose gave up 333 passing yards to Stanford and is allowing 423 total yards per game. San Jose won't be able to stay with QB Timmy Chang and Hawaii's fun-and-gun passing attack. San Jose is 7-1 ATS the last 8 against Hawaii, but not they don't have the talent or defense to hang with them this time.

Good Luck Tonight,

Allstar
