5 Units Michigan -12.5 -110
Both Iowa and Michigan were ten game winners in both 2002 and 2003. At least one of those runs, if not both, are about to come to an end. Mathematically, it will still be possible for the Hawkeyes and/or the Wolverines to reach double digit wins again this season. But it's looking pretty unlikely for both teams considering current form, and for the loser of this contest, it will be a virtual impossibility. Each team carries a 2-1 record into this meeting, but neither has been sharp. Iowa blew out Kent State to start the year, but the Golden Flashes were without their best player by far, QB Josh Cribbs. The Hawkeyes barely got by a so-so Iowa State unit in its second game, and Iowa was simply obliterated in last week's demolition at Arizona State. As for the Wolverines, they beat Miami, Ohio by a misleading 43-10 count, lost to a fairly ordinary Notre Dame and then barely squeaked past San Diego State. Both teams have QB issues and neither team is running the ball well at all. In fact, the only shining light for both the Hawkeyes and Wolverines has been their staunch rushing defense. Bearing those facts in mind, this certainly shapes up as a game that will be on the low scoring side. But look for the Wolverines to do the majority of whatever scoring there is. The home field edge is substantive, Michigan has a major revenge motive, and simply stated, the Wolverines appear to be the better overall team by a considerable margin. Look for Michigan to get a defensive score in this game that gets them over the point spread hump.
