FRIDAY 1-0 +10 UNITS

Here are todays selections:

10 Units Duke -14 -101

This game doesn't have the appeal it might have had a couple of years ago as Duke (R: 4-0 SU, ATS) is loaded (shooting 48% from the field) and the Hoyas are more like prey than a worthy adversary. Duke's only loss has been to a very good Purdue squad that's climbing in the Big-10. In their easy win over Maryland this week, JJ Reddick scored 26 points and freshman Luol Deng collected 13 points and 12 rebounds, helping Duke to a commanding 49-36 advantage on the glass. Rebuilding Georgetown has a modest 2-3 Big East mark and isn't much of a threat for postseason play at this point. Early this week they skirted by St. John's 71-69 with a last second victory. The Hoyas don't have much of an outside game and will do well to stay in the same building here.

10 Units Cincinnati -11 -107

A real bad spot for Southern Miss. Cincinnati (R: 4-1 SU, 3-1 ATS) began the week undefeated and was soundly defeated by Louisville 93-66 Wednesday. Both teams entered on 13-game winning streaks but the Bearcats were outplayed. Jason Maxiell scored 14 points to lead Cincinnati and reserve Tony Bobbitt, the Bearcats' leading scorer, netted only eight points before fouling out. Southern Miss lost to Louisville 76-42 two weeks ago on the way to a 2-2 league mark. They defeated Marquette 83-61 this week. Leading scorers for the game were Greg Johnson with 24, David Haywood 14 points and Jasper Johnson 13. Southern Miss is hardly an offensive juggernaut, but Marquette's sloppy defensive play allowed Southern Miss to get behind the Marquette defense time and time again. Southern Miss responded by shooting 53.1 percent from the field for the game, including 66.7 percent in the second half as Southern Miss put the game away. A bad outing against Louisville will have the Bearcats eating nails by Saturday when they visit the undermanned Golden Eagles.

7 Units Wisc Milwaukee +3 -109

It will be Milwaukee's fast-paced offense (79 ppg) against Detroit's tough defense (42% shooting allowed, just 62.8 points per game surrendered). The Wisconsin Milwaukee Panthers shoot 50% from the field and love to run, even on the road where they average 76 ppg. They have several strong scorers in 6’-3” junior guard Ed McCants (18 ppg, 51% FGs), 6’-8” senior forward Dylan Page (20.9 ppg, 52% FGs, 7 rpg) and 6’-7” sophomore Adrian Tigert (5.8 rpg). But Detroit will slow the pace down and play tough defense -- The Titans are 6-2 at home where they outscore teams by a 62-60 average! The Detroit Titans (9-7 SU) are not big, led by Forward 6’-5” senior Elijah Warren (14 ppg) and guard Rulon Harris (9 ppg). Detroit is just 1-3 ATS at home and a year ago on this court, the better offense triumphed in a 73-72 Milwaukee win as a dog.

7 Units Vanderbilt -4.5 -109

As I expected, Vanderbilt (13-2 SU, 7-5 ATS) really gave it to Florida at Vandebilt, 86-72 SU. Now after a week of rest, they travel to struggling Arkansas ( 9-7 SU, 5-7 ATS). Arkansas is coming off yet another conference loss at Auburn, 70-63 SU (1-4 SU in the SEC). This team is clearly out-matched by the stronger teams in the SEC. Even though Vanderbilt is on the Road, they should put Arkansas way quickly. Vandy’s Matt Freije is the key player on the floor for the Commodores (17 ppg, 5 rpg). Arkansas is also a one-man squad leg by Jonathon Modica (17 ppg, 4 rpg). Don’t let the similar stats fool you, Vandy is the better team.

5 Units UTEP -7 -107

San Jose State will try and slow things down against mighty UTEP, but San Jose started 0-5 SU/ATS in WAC games! They will struggle here against UTEP's terrific offense. UTEP likes to push the ball up the court (81 ppg) shooting 49% as a team, led by 6'-5" junior Omar Thomas (15 ppg), 6’-6” senior forward Roy Smallwood and 6’-5” sophomore Jason Williams (12 ppg). Fresno tried to slow things down last week and UTEP torched them for 59% shooting against a terrific Fresno State defense in a 72-58 win! San Jose State is slumping badly, especially on defense, giving up 83, 73 and 73 points in three recent games. You don't want to play soft 'D' against this explosive UTEP offense! These teams played three close games last season, but this one won't be.

5 Units Nebraska +6 -108

Nebraska (H: 10-1 SU, 4-1 ATS; 1-3 Big 12) picked up its first Big-12 win of the year on Wednesday when they held Baylor without a field goal for nearly 13 minutes to open the game, then scooting to a 76-47 win. Baylor made just 31 percent of its shots and Nebraska outrebounded the Bears 39-25. Jason Dourisseau with 18 points led the Huskers. Missouri (H: 4-4 SU, 1-4 ATS; 1-3 Big-12) split a couple of league games this past week topping Oklahoma and then losing to Texas 75-69 Tuesday. Rickey Paulding scored 15 of his 20 points after halftime but missed a pair of crucial free throws down the stretch for Missouri which lost for the seventh time in 10 games. Tough game to call here, though Missou is at home.

5 Units South Carolina -7.5 -104

After taking the week off, the South Carolina Gamecocks (16-2 SU, 8-4 ATS) get back into the mix with a very tough game against LSU at Home. LSU (12-3 SU, 6-4 ATS), is coming off a tough SEC West loss to Mississippi State, 64-54 SU. Before the vacation, South Carolina bounced Tennessee 85-64. That put them at the top of the SEC East. LSU has been very average on the Road this year (3-2 SU), only averaging 60 points a game during their travels. On the other hand, South Carolina has been awesome at home (10-1 SU) only permitting 54 points a game where they play a stifling defense! Teams are only shooting 35% against South Carolina. Junior Carlos Powell leads the Gamecocks with 14 points and 7 rebounds a game. South Carolina will also be looking for some revenge after getting killed last year at LSU. The defensive-minded Gamecocks should be better at Home this time around.

5 Units Wichita State -5.5 +100

The Wichita State Shockers (11-6 SU, 9-4 ATS) are playing great ball. They have junior guard Randy Burns and junior 6’-5” Jamar Howard (14 ppg, 6 rpg, 55% FGs) leading the way on offense, and a huge frontcourt of 6’-8” junior Rob Kampman (9 ppg, 5 rpg) and 6’-10”, 250-lb sophomore C Paul Miller (6 rpg). That frontcourt will be the difference this game, as poor Evansville (2-13) has a good backcourt but no height. The Evansville Aces give up 74 ppg at home and are led by guard Clint Cuffle (11 ppg) and 6’-5” junior Andre Burton (11 ppg). Evansville is 2-4 SU/ATS at home and Wichita will control the glass easily this game.

5 Units Middle Tenn St +6 -109

Sun Belt battle and this will be a run and gun game. Both teams lack big men and defense and the guard play carries the load. The run-and-gun Middle Tennessee State Blue Raiders have 6’-3” senior Tommy Gunn (17 ppg, 50%) and 6’-2” junior Mike Dean (13 ppg, 43% FGs, 48% from three-point land) doing the scoring, but they lost 5 of their first 6 road games giving up 78 ppg! Middle Tennessee State also had an impressive 76-63 win at home over Wyoming recently, as 5'-11" freshman Bryan Smithson busted out with 22 points on 10-15 shooting! They will be able to score against a short New Orleans team that allows 44% shooting per game. New Orleans has senior shooting guard Kyle Buggs (11 ppg, 37% FGs) and 6'-2" senior Johnell Smith (14 ppg, 38% FGs, 31% 3-pt land), leading the way, though they are both shooting below 39%. In fact, as a team New Orleans is shooting 40% and 66% from the line, and they average just 66 ppg at home. Middle Tennessee State crushed New Orleans a year ago, 77-60, but this will be a closer, more evenly matched game.

5 Units Northern Iowa -10 -104

Injuries have sapped Bradley's offense. Banged-up Bradley (8-10) has lost 6 in a row (1-5 ATS run), and is struggling badly without star guard Phil Gilbert (20 ppg), who has missed the last eight games with a foot injury. The Bradley Braves have been reduced to a two-man team behind 6’-4” senior guard James Gillingham (15.5 points pg) and 6’-7” sophomore Marcellus Sommerville (15.8 ppg, 7 rpg). They shot 38% in a 72-62 home loss to Southern Illinois and the last game shot 35% in a 52-45 loss at SW Missouri State. Before that, Bradley lost 84-69 at Evansville and they shot 24% in 66-53 home loss to Wichita State! They are 1-7 Su/2-6 ATS without Gilbert. They won't find the going any easier this game against the Northern Iowa Panthers (10-5 SU, 9-4 ATS). Northern Iowa is 8-2 at home and they have excellent balance, with a rugged frontcourt of 6’-6” senior C David Gruber (12 ppg, 7 rpg) and 6’-7”, 240-lb senior Matt Schneiderman (11 ppg, 7.6 rpg), while the backcourt is led by 6’-3” sophomore Ben Jacobson (13 ppg, 45% from 3-point land). Bradley will play hard, but their offense has been awful lately, scoring 53, 62, and 45 points the last three games!!!

Thanks for the post All-Star .... like almost all your games except for Nebraska .... as has been said pretty much all year "Missouri has too much talent" .... and even though I think Quin Snyder has messed this team up they will get it done today in Columbia IMO. Good luck.
