Consider this scenario for the committee.
Wisconsin 13-0, Alabama 12-1, Georgia 12-1, Miami 12-1, Oklahoma 12-1, Clemson 12-1.

Who should they select?

In this scenario, the only team that is absolutely out is Miami. The only two teams absolutely in are Georgia and Clemson.

Clemson, having beaten a top-3ish, undefeated Miami team in order to win the conference title, with its other parts of its resume, is always making the playoffs in this scenario.

Georgia, having won the SEC and just beaten an undefeated, #1 Alabama team, is always in the playoffs in this scenario.

Miami is not getting in over Clemson in this scenario, and the ACC is not getting in two teams in this scenario. So they are out.

That leaves two spots for Wisconsin, Alabama, and Oklahoma. My money in this scenario is on Oklahoma and Wisconsin.

Time to start pushing for 8 team playoffs. ^^:)

But jokes aside, if that is the situation all non sec teams should be given the edge but that wont happen.

Sec is the weakest of those conferences. But they have a lot of brand name/successful teams from the past that gives illusion of sec being good. Sec has bunch weak teams this year. Alabama or Auburn in sec looks like defensive greats but put them in the other conference and you will see how bad their defense really is....

An 8 team playoff dilutes the regular season. Plus if we add another game then the talk continues about paying players. I don't think they should be payed but I understand the arguments behind it.

Not trying to be ugly Mack but it's pretty obvious our friend (99steak) hasn't been around the "block" even
once.

Nothing personal toward a non-football guy because this is an open forum and we love them all.

Who are they and what is the talk every year?

One of the "BEST" experts here at theRX who never offers anything worth forum consideration.

Wisconsin 13-0, Alabama 12-1, Georgia 12-1, Miami 12-1, Oklahoma 12-1, Clemson 12-1.

Who should they select?

In this scenario, the following 4 teams would be selected in RANKED ORDER:

1. Clemson (12-1) ACC Champions
2. Oklahoma (12-1) BIG XII Champions
3. UGA (12-1) SEC Champions
4. Wisconsin (13-0) BIG10 Champions

This is 4 Conference Champions; three of whom would have 1 loss, and one undefeated Champion.

The scenario above would indicate that Alabama lost the SEC Championship game, and IF the other teams mentioned were undefeated (Wisky) and/or had one loss (OU and Clemson), then this is EXACTLY how it would go. Bama would drop to #5.

But....don't worry, this scenario will never happen.

In today's football world, anything "can happen"; If Ohio State wins the Big10 championship game (that could happen) what happens to Wisconsin?
What is shocking is that the Pac-12 is not in the loop; only one team West of the Mississippi River is in the "mix" this year......Oklahoma.....Ouch.

What happens when Wisconsin AND / OR OHIO STATE lose to Michigan, and what happens when OU loses the BIGXII Championship Game, and what happens when Miami loses to VA. or Pitt but then BEATS Clemson in the ACC Championship Game.....So MUCH left to be settled. Good stuff Mack.

interesting assumption and i agree it wont happen but alabama should be in over clemson and oklahoma regardless of what happens. they lose to auburn or georgia and they have the best loss of any 1 loss team. alabama could lose to auburn and auburn could beat georgia a second time creating havoc but last year the big ten had the same problem. a 1 loss Alabama team should be in over a team that lost to Syracuse or Iowa state even if that means 2 from the same conference get in.

if you lose by 30 points you should be eliminated, sorry ohio state you shouldnt even be in the discussion

I have to agree with you "skins"......Those two Buckeye loses (Oklahoma & Iowa) were devastating. If they win the Big-10 championship game they would have to settle for a "romp in the sun" on New Years Day in the Rose Bowl against some Pac12 team .....I hope the "Rose Parade" is exceptionally good this year...LOL Poor Buckeyes.....
