No disrespect to Datsyuk as he most assuredly is in the top ten of the NHL but...

No team or individual gives you a better watch than the Washington Caps and AO.

I'd pay top dollar to watch Ovechkin play on a ECHL team. I wouldn't do the same for Dytsyuk.

Ovie is the only player I would pay to watch... with Malkin and Chara distant seconds.

Not only is Ovie more exciting, but if I had to pick one guy to have the puck with the game on the line, or one guy to build a team around, it's still Ovie.

Datsyuk is an amazing player who has tremendous skill, but he's not the best in the world. I'd think of Datsyuk as the absolute perfect centre for Ovie (perhaps we'll see that next year).

By the way:
Ovechkin 6th in the league with 203 hits.
Datsyuk ranks 242 with 61.

Some equal time for our hero.
....turn it up.

Well, all i can say is you guy haven't watched enough of his overall game to appreciate it as I have.

Let's compare.

PD 30
AO 14

PIM
PD 18
AO 66

Points
PD 75

Shooting %
PD 14.2
AO 11.2

Lady Bing Trophys
PD 3
AO 0

Frank Selke Trophy's

PD lead league in steals last 3 seasons.

Dont believe the hype.

One's an awesome one dimensional highlight reel star on a team that's never won a playoff game.

The other.... the consumate team player who makes his teammates better.

Pavel Datsyuk...best hockey player in the world.

face off percentage?
Lady Bing's!!?

How is that relevant in comparing these two players?

You going hold Ovechkin at fault for not winning 2 Stanley Cups in his first three seasons with a team that only won 23 games in the year before he was drafted? In comparison Datsyuk inherited a roster that was already winning 50 games a year without him.

How about comparing the numbers for Datsyuk's first three years with AO's and then get back to me.

Bottom line...Datsyuk is 31 years old. Ovie is 23. I'll take the kid that has no chance of ever winning the prestigious Lady Bing.

48 more PIM's. Without looking it up i dont believe either one of them have been in a fight this season. so that's 24 minor penalties that AO have put his team at a disadvantage than Datsyuk has to the Wings. That's an edge.

Datsyuk is a centerman who wins over 57% of his FO's. Meaning puck possession for the Wings. And one of the main reasons they do so well. AO doesn't contribute to his team in this area at all. In fact when he is put in that position, he only wins one in four. That's not an edge.

>You going hold Ovechkin at fault for not winning 2 Stanley Cups in his first three seasons with a team that only won 23 games in the year before he was drafted? In comparison Datsyuk inherited a roster that was already winning 50 games a year without him.

And then he was put in the position of taking over the top line on the team when Yzerman retired. And helped the team win 2 cups. This is AO's 4th season now and no playoff rounds wons yet. None.

>How about comparing the numbers for Datsyuk's first three years with AO's and then get back to me.

What? You mean padding his numbers and not involving the rest of the TEAM in the effort every night? No doubt he's an exciting player Vic. I'm saying Datsyuk's overall game is better. Hands down. You want to go watch him in an ECHL game. You go boy. I'm getting used to all the winning here myself.

The Lady Byng Memorial Trophy, formerly known as the Lady Byng Trophy, is presented each year to the National Hockey League "player adjudged to have exhibited the best type of sportsmanship and gentlemanly conduct combined with a high standard of playing ability"

You make that sound as if it's some sort of flaw in one's game.

First off - PD is a great player but cmon, he is playin in detroit compared to washington.

i dont even think it is close. ovie is younger, playing on a weaker team, and in a city starved for a winner (they have no sports franchise that contends for anything)

i hate the caps but clearly ovechkin deserves some credit he turned that franchise around in just three short years.

I'm a HUGE fan of Pavel Datsyuk but man......pulling the Lady Bing angle???

:):)

Also, pulling stats from that far up your ass can't be healthy for you. You should get yourself checked out.

wow, this is some really biased stuff.

let's pull out all the irrelevant categories that datsyuk can beat ovie at.

ovie's more than a one man highlight reel. the guy clearly involves his teammates, and wants to win more than anything.

ps: you are all wrong, kevin bieksa trumps them both!

Who's Semen, Green and Federov? Chopped liver?

yeah they are nice players but cmon the federov card? he is so past his prime its sad. hes a role player now.

ovie is the total package. he hits, he scores, he assists, and he skates.

and most importantly the kid is just flat out exciting, he scores and goes wild. thats what the fans need and want.

if im starting a franchise today, no doubt ovie is my pick, hands down.

As great as Datysuk is, they still win their division without him.

Ok, I'll admit to some homerism here on a small scale. But you've crossed the line here. With Chicago's team on the rise this season, Detroit doesn't win the Central without Datsyuk or Lidstrom in the lineup. Either one.
