At one time this wager was the most assured wager you could make in the entire gambling world. Not so much anymore.

I think the NHL is making a desperate effort in trying to attract viewers/fans back to the sport as evidencd by the New Year's Day games.

What attracts viewers better than a prime time Sunday, (no football), game than a 13-11 score?.

Last year we saw 15 goals scored after 21 in 2007. I think 17 is a very reachable number.

What do you say? Number too high?

it's a total crap shoot, it could be 7-6 or 12-10... nobody knows or could possibly have any insight on the total for this all-star game..

buuuutttt if you were actually going to lay something look at the goalies... In which case I'm thinking under...

And this is why in comparison to last year.. 17 goals with last years goalies being Osgood, Nabakov and Legacy for the West, Thomas, Vokoun and Dipietro (Although he didnt get any game action because of the Injury in the skills) for the East...

Compared to this year Giguere, Backstrom and Luongo for the West, Thomas, Lundqvist and Price... farrrrr better goaltenders in my opinion this year around... Im not 100% if Price and Luongo are playing but if they are I'm very confident in the under.

Giguere and Luongo are both from MTL, they are both very competetive guys who won't take the game as light as the other tenders, same goes for Price as the home town tender... can't see him taking the game as light either... Backstrom and Lundqvist are true stoppers, big in the net... this is a big deal as these guys wont have ANY defense in from of them on Sunday... only thing remains... will Thomas get torched for 6?!?

NHL Eastern AS v Western AS U16.5 -110

How is that for a crap shoot... :toast:

Luongo and Price. They may just stand on their heads and steal the show, but to me, those are the 2 question marks out of the 6 as both are coming off injuries and are not nessessarly in peak form.

I was thinking about taking East -1.5. Looks like the East was the big draw in the voting, seemingly like 2:1. The better players in the game are from the East, there is no doubt about that. Datsyuk and Lidstrom have dropped out now so that hurts the West even more. I could see East taking it by 2 pretty easily.

Now, having said that, Since they changed the format in 1994 after no more Wales and Campbell conference, all but 2 of the games have been decided by 3 points or less, and 5 were decided by a single goal. I would assume that is why the spread is only -1.5.

1994 East 9 West 8
1996 East 5 West 4
1997 East 11 West 7
1998 NA 8 World 7
1999 NA 8 World 6
2000 World 9 NA 4
2001 NA 14 World 12
2002 World 8 NA 5
2003 West 6 East 5 (SO)
2004 East 6 West 4
2007 West 12 East 9
2008 East 8 West 7

With the O/U sitting at 16.5, it seems like "they" are expecting to see another close one at maybe East 9, West 7 or 8, but I am guessing it will be under, and the East pulls off maybe 3 point victory, maybe something along the lines of East 8, West 5.

By the way, I am saddened by the lack of threads on the All-Star game. I guess Bettman has destroyed it along with the rest of the league. Now, the players even get suspended if they are chosen and then decide not to play.

Anyway, good luck!

In a game this wide open I think there's lots of value with East -1.5 for a couple bucks. Looking at the rosters, the West is much weaker on defence compared to the East. I think that could make the dif.

right on

I have no particular feeling on the game since it's purely an exhibition tilt

Might mix one of the plus money bets (East -1.5 or West moneyline) with an NBA selection in a 2TeamParlay

Price may have a little rust still... if you watched Luongo against the Sharks last game you would agree his rust is gone.... this guy hates getting scored on in practice...man...practice... :grandmais

IMO the best total to bet is First Period over 4.5.

Price is rusty, and Giguere is just a snowman on skates...

Giguere is great when he doesn't have to move laterally. The guy is honestly the closest thing to putting a Sumo wrestler in net. In a wide open game such as this, I expect him to struggle.
