I am really struck by the extreme polarity on this Tebow thing. If you don't like him does not mean you "hate" him. I personally am not ready to canonize him because in reality he is just a kid whose whole life (outside of football) is ahead of him. If you say you don't think he is or will be the greatest football player in the history of college football, then his ardent supporters think you hate him. I personally do not see him profiling out as a potential NFL superstar but to make such a statement does not demean his collegiate accomplishments nor does it mean I "hate" him. Then you can throw in the salad bar full of tangently related topics to add fuel to the fire: SEC vs. Big 12, USC,Utah, Texas supporters just being the fans they are and all because without a playoff the national title is in fact mythical. I have been as bad as anyone but Tebow fans have to deal with the fact that heaping all this praise on Tebow is dangerously close to worshipping false idols (in the Old Testament biblical sense). I think Harvin deserves just as much attention as him but he is not high profile. To many he is Floridas MVP yet he sits in Tebows shadow. Tebow is the perfect example of the kind of player who you hate to play against but you love to play with. It is because he is high profile, competitive (maybe to a fault), and he has the accolades to prove whatever point you want as long as you understand that it just your opinion. What provokes the so called "hatred" thing is not Tebow so much as the media and his supporters who are not willing to accept the fact that not everyone feels the same way as they do about him. I just want to put this thing to bed and move on. Everyone should be able to accept the fact that we agree to disagree from time to time and this is the flavor of the day. Is he the greatest player in the history of college football. ARGUABLY. That is the key, lots of other players are too. I, and I think many others like me, do not wish him harm, or want to wallow in any failures or short comings that his next season may bring. I read a lot of threads in here recently and I never saw anyone say they "hated" Tim Tebow. All right already.

I have followed Tim Tebow's career since he was in high school and every year there are always groups of people that say he can't do something. First, it was he couldnt run like he did in HS. Next, after the 2006 season, it was he can ONLY run and wouldn't be able to throw. After the 2007 Heisman season, it became he can't win big games/lead his team to come from behind wins. Now that he has done all of those things, it is he is a fake and will suck in the NFL. So, to the people that do support Tim Tebow it seems like hate. Also, Percy Harvin is loved by the Gator Nation. He may not get all the press clippings but we all have a great respect for him and know that the team wouldn't have won all those games without him.

FWIW, Tebow will have surgery tomorrow to repair a separated right shoulder that he suffered earlier in the year.

Sam Bradford was not highly recruited and somewhat of a surprise when he got the call to start for OU. He has surpassed everyones wildest dreams with his accomlishments to date. There again, he may not make it in the NFL either and everyone I know is bewildered as to why OU does not have any running plays for him. We used to run the same variations off the option sweep to include the shovel pass to the tight end just like florida used to close the deal against OU. Bradford is low keyed and his personality is nothing like Tebows but he leads in his own way. Different strokes for different folks. I have often wondered why they are in such a hurry to give out the Heisman. Had they waited until all the bowls were completed Tebow would have won hands down.
There again how many sports have the teams wait 33 days to play for the championship? It should probably be the first of the bowl games played.

So I assume this last sentence is why OU lost? UF had the same layoff... Tebow may be "obsessed with winning" but I think you're obsessed with Tebow...

Well you know what happens when you assume anything. The last sentence is in there because it is just another thing that is wrong with the system. I already conceded that if they gave out the Heisman after the bowls were over Tebow would have won. My god, you Tebow guys are so sensitive. You do not have to defend him to the death much less make paranoid assumptions that do not occur to any one but a Tebow extremist. Nobody hates Tebow. Not me for sure. What is your problem?
I am not obsessed with Tebow. If anything I am obsessed with people like you that think everyone has to think about him the same way you do. Once again, the layoff was not an excuse. My point is that there are too many bowls and no other sport has such a long delay for a championship game. Even when you play the game, whenever that is, you still have the Utahs, USC's and Texas's making claims they will never have the chance to back up. Without a playoff system it just sucks. At least if they had a playoff the teams (all of them) would be able to keep in rhythem and there would be no excuses for any of the teams involved. I assume you understand all of the above.

You can look at the Heisman being handed out until after the bowl games in two ways. If it comes down to just the two QB's of the teams competeting in the National Championship game, then it's probably a good idea to wait. On the other hand if say a Colt McCoy or even some lesser known player on a lesser known team is one the frontrunners, it puts him at a distinct disadvantage by not playing in the BCS title game. With virtually everybody in the country watching that game, the voters have a tendency to vote for the most recent greatest performance that they've seen. As it stands now, the Heisman will always be a popularity contest between the hottest QB's or RB's on the hottest teams playing in the BCS title game.. This has been the modus operandi for this award for years now. When I look at the most recent Heisman candidates, the Tebow's, Bradford's, Harrell's or McCoy's out there, I see QB's that you can plug into that position, and they will all perform well as long as they have a good offensive line blocking for them. If you don't believe that just look at how much McCoy struggled last season behind a new rebuilt Horns offensive line. It would be the same for any of these QB's. If Tebow didn't have a good O-Line blocking for him, he would have struggled all year like he struggled in the first half against OU. It all depends on the big uglies up front. This is why I tend to favor QB's or RB's who maybe didn't play behind a world class O-Line, yet still had some very good numbers. These are usually the kinds of players who end up making it in the pros. If you look at the slate of NFL starting QB's we have now, at least one third of them weren't even that highly drafted. That's why that trying to pick a player who is going to be good in the NFL can sometimes be a shot in the dark.

At last some sanity. Gosooners gets it. Pros is different from college. If you say that Tebow may not be as successful in the Pros as he was in college the Floridians redline. It is not intended to demean his college accomplishments. Like I have said before he is very high profile and he seems to like it that way. Guys like McCoy or Harrell, especially Harrell got lost in the shufffle. It is a popularity contest which is why I was so surprised Bradford won it. And had they waited until after the BCS championship game I am sure Tebow would have won it and deservedly so. If you mention the NFL to the Floridians they automatically get in an attack mode. Admittedly, he may make it as that seems to be his track record, meeting or exceeding expectations. He has admirable qualities but just because you or I do not think of him like the Floridians do, then we are wrong or we hate Tebow. They didn't find the Fountain of Youth down there but there is certainly something in the water.

If OU won that game I highly doubt you would have any posts regarding Tebow, a playoff, etc... You're so transparent.

Wrong again... you said Tebow may not make the league. I never argued that he was going to be "good," I merely said that he would for sure make it! And fyi, you live in Oklahoma I don't think you should talking down to Floridians, that's for damn sure! I was a news reporter in Ardmore, Oklahoma.... enough said.

A news reporter. Did you say a news reporter? A news reporter? It's too early to talk about news reporters. I am not talking down to Floridians.
It's just that you guys are so sensitive. Maybe the sun screen has a long term effect. Did you say a news reporter? Loosen up and bask in the glory. Just out of curiosity what was the biggest thing you ever reported on in Ardmore America? Oh by the way I am the hollow man thank you.

What did he say? I fell asleep. :nohead:
He said he spent 5 minutes with Tebow and he did not feel better for it and that Tebow was definitely not a Messiah. That was not sleep. All floridians fall into a Tebow trance when they hear anti-tebow comments.
It protects their shallow egos.

Well when you talk about Tebow in public you have to be solemn and monotone, as if you were in church. In addition, talking about Tebow is not as an exciting topic outside of Florida. That reporter is probably a better reporter for having reported on Tebow. Puke!
