Alexa isn't very accurate. If you have their service that probably jumps you up a couple hundred thousand spots. If you don't then you hardly even register.

A few sites I know joined and they moved up dramatically afterwards. I am not so sure it is a coincidence.

Any site in the top 100,000 on Alexa is considered good by any standards. However, forums and interactive sites tend to get much more traffic than your plain information site.

It will also depend on what your site is about. Active techie sites tend to be underated, I think because tech people stay away from Alexa software.

I run a small site that ranks around 3million and we use between 5-6 gb of bandwidth a month and have a respectable number of regular users. IMO, we are unfairly rated.

Also, there's no real point in manipulating alexa ranking. Its merely a badge for big sites. As long as I can hold my place on google I'm fine with being the obscure 3,244,547th site.

Alexa is the most overrated ranking system out there. It can be manipulated very easily for one, although it does seem that they have made some adjustments of the last few months.

Secondly the ranking you get is only representative of people that have the Alexa toolbar on their machine(s). It has nothing to do with the amount of total internet traffic, only traffic generated by users with the toolbar.

It is a useful tool to use as a barometer but the 11,679 ranking you see the RX having means that it is ranked 11,679 out of Alexa users not 11,679 based on all non-alexa internet traffic world-wide.

Still, lower is better then higher and bitterlittleman is right, anything below 100k is considered to be pretty good.

However rankings of 10-30k are pretty much the same, 40-70k are pretty much the same and 80-100k are also pretty much the same.
