Andrew Jones should win it...his average is pretty irrelevant. Look at his power numbers and the offensive production he put up with very little help in that lineup with rookies everywhere.

He and Pujols pretty much cancel each other out offensively this season.

Then factor in Jones might be the best defensive player in the game and he should win this thing hands down.

As a Cardinal Fan, I believe Andruw Jones probably deserves it more this year than Pujols but I am one that believes Pujols will win it to make up for some of the years he got 2nd to Bonds when really he deserved it. Kind of like the Pro Bowl or All Star votes when players who have their best career year does not make it but following year when they are putting up still decent numbers does make it. Voters will make up for year's past and give it to Pujols but like I said Andruw Jones deserves it this year.

Pujols might rack up 5 MVPs before his day is done. This might be Jones only real shot.

wow i can't believe people actually believe jones had the better year. Albert killed him in every category accept homeruns and rbi's.

i think puljos wins this. jones will finish 3rd on some ballots behind, puljos and lee, while i puljos will finish 1 or 2 on every ballot.

Think jones might win because the voters are clueless. If he does, it will be the lowest batting avg ever for an MVP. His avg with runners in scoring position was under .220, which tells me one thing....He's not very valuable!! He had a pretty good year...still don't know why the person with most HRs wins MVP every year. Pujols should win, I'd even put DLEE ahead of Jones actually.

My Cardinal hating aside, Pujols deserves it over Jones hands down. What the voters will actually do, I have no clue.

I would rate it

1. Pujols
2. d. lee
3. a. jones

i don't really care for high homerun low average hitters. especially when the other 2 are high homerun, high average hitters. and pujols produces more runs, even if jones does have more rbi's. because pujols actually gets on base for others to drive in also.

Can't believe homer nation isn't pulling for Eckstein in this thread.

I don't know how anyone could consider anyone other than Pujols. He's basically played like an MVP since day 1 on opening day 2001. He's almost never had a slump, and his defense has gotten better every year to the point it is now.....gold glove caliber. He didn't win it any of his first four years, he flat out deserves it right now. How can anyone think Andruw Jones is MVP over him? A .262 hitter is more valuable than a guy that is as consistent as Pujols? No way. Take away Roidhead Bonds, and Pujols would be receiving his 3rd or 4th MVP this year.

Jones should win it because he held up a far weaker Braves lineup than Pujols had to do. He also plays a key defensive position. Pujols would win it 2 out of 3 times, but Jones had a pretty special year.

You think Pujols deserved it over Bonds some of those years? That is flat out nuts. You are smarter than that.

Not that I can speak for Kojak, but he probably feels like I do. That Pujols had MVP caliber seasons, and would have won at least one or two MVP awards in most eras for the seasons he had. Give him the award already, everyone knows he's the best player in the game.

I would agree he had MVP caliber seasons, if that is what he meant by it. But he was clealy not the MVP over Bonds. NO disputing the man is phenominal and can't argue him winning this year, but also cannot argue Jones winning for holding together a mediocre offense and playing gold glove defense at one of the most important positions on the field.

i saw espn voters took phat albert 11 to 6 over jones for mvp. are these guys actual voters for the award? i also notice that sportsbook.com took their odds down right away after this was posted on espn.com

very curious on this, as i have a substantial wager on albert.

voting is already in for who won....voters have to vote before playoffs start. They just wait til playoffs over to announce the winner.
