When I worked in the media I stated every August and September when I was working on them that CFB Rankings SHOULD NOT be done until October 1st.....Pre-season ranknings are the like non-alcoholic beer.....What's the POINT!!!! They are strictly OPINION based on who has the MOST returning players....Rankings SCHOULD BE BASED ON PERFORMANCE!! IMO!! Florida and USC - which I think will be there at the end - had nothing more than scrimmages yesterday....Ohio St. DID NOT look like a TOP 10 team NOR did VA TECH with the way their offense performed....THEY were LUCKY they got a few BIG plays....That's why let them play a few weeks then RANK them....IMO!! GL

You know what, I don't entirerly disagree with this post. They made some errors last night that made that game closer then it should've been, but they will make some noise. They just have to find a way to beat Fla in the SEC title game...

I guess if you consider a 50% passer with an interception solid---yeah they will be fine. The SEC will eat this kid and their poor pass blocking O-line alive. Bama will lose 3 this year.

The Qb didn't look good at all last night what is everyone talking about....The Def is sick and the running game is good and Julio is great but the Qb had 9 straight incomplete passes at one point and looked like shit. He made a few good throws to wide open recievers thats about it.

Texas has been up and down. Alabama has been up and down. Also of the 4, Bama is the most recently whupped in a big game. Neither of those 2 have demonstrated the continuity of the other 2.

Only Florida and USC have won big games consistently. MAYBE either could be beaten on a given day, but there are fewer of those given days than with the other 2.

Even Florida slips up in little games. I bet you can't name any team that hasn't done that several times over the last 5 - 7 years. Everybody is guilty of sleepwalking once in a while. That's not a very reliable way of gauging their true power.

+1. Completely agree with this. Start the polls out with a poll of 1. Florida is #1 and then there are no other rankings until after week 7. Then you can rate teams record with their strength of schedule.

I hate teams getting credit for being a top 5 team in the country when after 5 weeks that team isn't even a top 25 team.

The problem is that this will NEVER change since TV LOVES to hype top 5 or top 10 matchups.

Last time I looked Va Tech was still an ACC team. Let's see what Bama does in the SEC. Bama basically did last night what the linesmakers predicted they would do.
