AD had an acct with SBG sports book. He was placing bets while at practice on his cell phone. His gambling trial ended in a hung jury when ONE black female was the only one that held out for acquittal. Afterward he pleaded to a felony. Bowden was told of AD gambling on football games the previous season well before that current season started but closed his eyes to it. Mr. Smith is right, the thrown game was the NC State game.
It is amazing to me that the NFL has completely closed their eyes to this previous and documented behavior. So much for having different sets of morals and principles for different situations. The NCAA banned AD from ever playing college football again but it is ok with the NFL. OBTW, Bowden was told the night before the NC St game by asst coaches that AD had told them that he was into some bookies big time yet Bowden still started him. LT

Gator,

I believe what Bowden knew and when is speculation. He has never admitted publicly he knew of any gambling while McPherson was playing. He did say he made a mistake starting McPherson vs NC St because he had received info that McPherson was in trouble for attempting to cash a forged check a few days ago.

I doubt Bowden would have played McPherson if he knew he was gambling. McPherson wasnt any good anyway, Bowden bending and breaking team rules to keep him around is unlikely. What your saying is possible, but not established fact.

FSU hasn't developed great QB's ...Brad Johnson was pretty much a backup, Charlie Ward NBA point guard, who else Weinke:icon_conf

some recent QBs

peter tom willis
casey weldon
thad busby
danny kanell

peter tom willis and casey weldon were pretty good college players, but not NFL type guys. busby wasnt any good. kanell wasnt good either.

Ward and Weinke were the best of the lot. Ward was spectacular for his final 1.5 years.

it should be mentioned that current Twins catcher Joe Mauer was an extremely hot blue chip college QB prospect who signed to play QB at FSU about the same time Chris Rix did.

When the hometown Twins drafted Mauer in the first round as a catcher, he signed with them and never reported to FSU.

And so FSU stuck with Rix starting for 4 years :cry4:
