This is great news...

NBA commissioner Adam Silver believes expanded legalized sports betting in the United States is "inevitable," and the league is open to participating in it.
Speaking at the Bloomberg Sports Business Summit on Thursday in New York, Silver said that he understood that cash-strapped states will pursue legalized sports betting and that the NBA can benefit from it.
[+] Enlarge Andy Marlin/USA TODAY SportsNBA commissioner Adam Silver says he thinks sports betting is "inevitable" in cash-strapped states.

"It's inevitable that, if all these states are broke, that there will be legalized sports betting in more states than Nevada," Silver said, per Bloomberg.com. "We will ultimately participate in that."
It's a change in tune for the NBA, which in 2012 joined the NCAA, NFL, MLB and NHL in suing New Jersey over its efforts to bring legalized sports betting to its casinos and race tracks. During deposition testimony in the New Jersey case, former NBA commissioner David Stern scolded Gov. Chris Christie for his efforts.
"The one thing I'm certain of is New Jersey has no idea what it's doing and doesn't care because all it's interested in is making a buck or two," Stern said in November 2010, according to court documents. "They don't care that it's at our potential loss."
The sports leagues, who were joined by the Department of Justice, ultimately prevailed over New Jersey with a majority decision by Third Circuit Court of Appeals. New Jersey, however, is continuing its pursuit of sports betting.
Stern retired in February, giving way to Silver and his openness to sports betting.
"If you have a gentleman's bet or a small wager on any kind of sports contest, it makes you that much more engaged in it," Silver said. "That's where we're going to see it pay dividends. If people are watching a game and clicking to bet on their smartphones, which is what people are doing in the United Kingdom right now, then it's much more likely you're going to stay tuned for a long time."
More than $3.6 billion was wagered on sports at Nevada sports books in 2013. The American Gaming Association, citing the National Gambling Impact Study, estimates that as much as $380 billion is wagered illegally in the U.S. annually.

I try to watch every game I bet. I'm willing to bet more people like watching games with action on it than betting on games they don't watch.

If you bet on a game and have to watch it you probably shouldn't be betting on that game cause the only reason you are watching is to see how you lost it

if you figure you will win you can find something better to do

That is a lot of potentially taxable revenue.

If it were legal everywhere, then there would be no reason for sports bettors to fly to Vegas and stay in their expensive hotels. The Nevada books want to keep that monopoly.

Don't worry AK one of these days you will understand

Are you saying one day I'll stop watching sports I bet on? Just seems strange to me. I always thought that was one of the more fun parts of betting on sports. You're honestly the first person I've ever heard with this view. I'm willing to be you are very much in the minority.

Good to see. Silver gets it. So does Bettman. 2 Leagues to go. Hopefully the new Baseball Commish will be so enlightened. Goodell will continue his hypocrisy, of encouraging fantasy betting so the NFL can profit, but being anti gambling on the surface.

In Europe, you can see books sponsoring soccer teams on the front of their freaking jerseys. I don't know where the myth came from that legalizing betting in the US would suddenly lead to rampant game fixing. If anything, it's probably the other way around...as more eyes would be able to spot suspicious betting patterns.

I'm literally shocked (in a good way) Silver came out and said this. The NFL will be the last domino to fall...they like to pretend none of their viewers bet. I know some people who work for the league who have told me about the ridiculous seminars they have to attend every single year where management basically repeats "Don't go to Vegas!" over and over again.

Not every game used to be on TV

I got Kentucky -12 against OhIo and will not watch the game I'll be watching Stanford then Oregon and will not have a play on either of those games

Yea, not every game you bet on is on tv, but games on tv that I bet on I like to watch. Like I would not care about Arizona/UTSA if I didn't have money on it but I had the game on the entire time. I just don't agree with your statement that people don't watch games that they bet on. I think it's completely opposite and Adam Silver knows that.

It's all about a Fantasy.......

Seattle's Richard Sherman has long maintained that he's a better cornerback than Arizona's Patrick Peterson and a more dominant player than San Francisco's Michael Crabtree. Now, at last, he may have hard numbers to back him up.

The NFL is rolling out the initial phase of a tracking system that will allow fans to view a wide range of statistics about their favorite players, including speed, routing, distance traveled, and separation.

As reported by USA Today, each player will wear two small sensors under the shoulder pads, and the sensors will track the players' movements throughout the game.

(And ONLY the game, which should bring a sigh of relief to quite a few players.)

Many moons ago I used to watch games I bet on.
To much time and to hard on the nerves. Just give me the final score and I'm good.
Now football I'll watch the whole game just cause I love to watch it with action on it or not.
