(CNN)President Donald Trump's first address to Congress received largely positive reviews from viewers, with 57% who tuned in saying they had a very positive reaction to the speech, according to a new CNN/ORC poll of speech-watchers.

Nearly 7-in-10 who watched said the President's proposed policies would move the country in the right direction and almost two-thirds said the president has the right priorities for the country. Overall, about 7-in-10 said the speech made them feel more optimistic about the direction of the country.

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

OK, not their words, but when you consider 1/3 of the nation would hate him if he created a high paying job for every American, ended all wars, negotiated peace in the ME, balanced the budget, and improved healthcare by 100,000%, having 7/10 say they're more optimistic about the direction of the country and 2/3 say he has the right priorities, he pitched a perfect game

Reducing regulations, lower taxes, smaller federal government, strong national defense, incredible (non-legislative) Supreme Court nominee........................................., can anyone still argue he's not a conservative? Those are my fundamental beliefs, and that's what the Constitution is all about, that's conservatism in a nutshell.

I'm hoping all that idiocy and hate stops, I'm hoping the American people (save for the 30% of course) see through the lies and deceit about him. (Oh the irony, A?)

7-in-10 speech-watchers say Trump boosted optimism

The Democrats look very tiny today.

and they continue to do so

Trump may be the end of the democratic party as we know it, he actually is going to do something about crime, education and jobs, and all of that may finally expose left wing idiocy and hate for what it is

Democrats need divide to survive, like cockroaches, their modern day politicians thrive in chaos. Do something to improve the lives of inner-city residents, something not very hard to do, and their base begins to crumble.

They'll always have modern day Hollywood, those people are too dense to reach, and they'll continue to control the main stream media, those idiots actually think they know everything about everything, but they're not very important. What's important are the voters, and I think they're cutting through the fog more and more every day.

I have been been pointing out for decades that if the Republicans ever earned 1/3 of the black vote, the democrats would never win another national election.

His job won't be easy, the idiot democrats are proving how much they really oppose change, and how much they embrace their failure known as the status quo, so he has to be persistent and he has to ignore the hate and the press. He's not a politician, he doesn't share their shallow value system, he's moving forward.

I didn't want him to be the nominee, I can't believe how wrong I was.

I agree with a lot of what you're saying there Willie. I didn't vote for Trump in the primary because I wasn't too sure about him. But you have to give the guy credit, he's taking his promises seriously and he has pretty big balls to call out the media and some of these establishment losers.

They just had Chuck Schumer on Good Morning America and he came across as a bitter little prick. Even George Stephonopolis started challenging him. When George brought up the positive reaction to the speech, Chuckie got all nasty.

The Dems have nothing but anger, hate, and divisiveness.

I look at this picture, and I can't help but to wonder how amazed Mike Pence and Paul Ryan have to be. I think they're both surprised at the state of government, that they actually control everything, that they can move their agenda forward.

I also want to thank Harry Reid and the democrats for clearing the path by going nuclear. Harry never was very bright, and now his party is going to pay for it.

Yes he is the end of the Democratic Party as we know it.
And he's the end of the Republican Party as we know it

conservative Republicans like me love him, he can't put forward a more conservative agenda

what he's going to destroy about the Republican Party is the mythology about being selfish, racist, greedy, hateful white men

Some of the things he is changing about the Republican Party is refreshing.

Honestly this is the first time I've said to myself that I might be happy he won.
Not thrilled with the way he has handled the media the first 30 days but if he can keep doing what he did last night that's a hell of a reset.

Whoever wrote that speech deserves an award.

Finally he stopped acting like a candidate and started acting like the president

I concur, he needs to act more presidential and stay away from the idiocy he's allowed himself to been dragged in to

Steve Bannon deserves alot of this credit. Guy is a shrewd customer. ALSO, LOVE the hiring of Gorka too. Trump did what i hoped he would do hire the best people he could find regardless if they agree with him or not and the true 4d chess move was to hire people on cab posts that despise their respective cabinets. What a better way to slash gov is to put an arson in charge of the tinder community. If youre a fan of small gov how can you not like the idea of deconstructing the administrative state??? We are on our way to 8 years if God willing and Trump stays healthy. Democrats are absolutely reeling right now.
