ACC Wednesday

0-1 yesterday, UNC had the cover but the walk-ons couldnt keep it. I like a few today but for now I will start with one..

*** Clemson Tigers +4.5

Clemson has the size and athleticism to give Duke fits in this game. Yet another chance for Clemson to prove that they are for real, I gotta think that they take it. I feel like the size and interior nature of the Tigers is going to force Duke to crash the boards much harder. This in turn will force Duke to put much less effort into their transition game and have the Devils play more of a half-court offense. For this reason I see a slower paced game and will probably play the under as well.

keep in mind that I am 0-5-1 on my last 6 duke games. I've had a hard time figuring this squad out...

i kinda think clemson is the side too, you know that the crowd wiill be in rare form for duke since everyone hates them so much. duke always struggles with athletic teams, also think there is an espn tax on duke in this game too.

Agreed on the espn tax. I feel like Duke is getting too much love right now considering they have some major flaws (no interior size, questionable bench, streaky shooting). Like their energy but this team to me has a ceiling of the elite 8 this year. Just a tough spot for Duke to be in for this game on the road where they have to do more than win the game

I like backing Clemson but I think that this team is worse then they have been the past two years and Duke is better then they were the past two years. Clemson has been pulling the same act, undefeated, hype, shit the bed in ACC play. I think this year is no different and with a worse team they may miss out on the tournament altogether. Clemson plays very undisciplined and the only time their defense plays well is when they play out of control teams with bad coaching. Not Duke, I think Duke wins rather comfortably but gl Jimmy.

**** Miami Hurricanes +3.5

I'm selling on Wake Forest this week guys. Young team dealing with their first real adversity of the season, and they are going into Coral Gables against a Miami team with their backs to the wall. Like the interior game of the Hurricanes and McClinton matches up very well with the Wake back court. Miami has started slowly in the ACC again but over the last few years they have proven to be a better team as they go through conference play. I know this is going to be a one-sided action kind of game and I don't mind being in the minority in this spot. If you are going to back Wake just know that this is a very tough spot for the Deacs to go on the road and cover

GD I do think think this Duke team is better but I see some major flaws in this team. I really liked the way Clemson came back @ VT last weekend, and then they had the entire weekend to build upon that momentum and get themselves ready for this game. I just get a feeling like the extra practice time is going to make a big difference and the vibe around this Tiger team is VERY positive right now. BOL to you mr. "Mac Daddy" Capper

Also wanted to add that I think this Wake team is overrated. In their 2 signature wins (NC and Duke) they had a combined 15 days of preparation time. I want to see them beat a good team when they don't have a week to prepare..

I have been looking forward to this thread all morning and I'm VERY happy to see you on Clemson. I had this one circled since last week's VT matchup and I love the BIG MO that Clemson has right now. Sure would have been nice to catch a few more points. Here's to hoping that JOE PUB bets this one up a tad.

Conversely, I don't like you being on the U. I love Wake in this one and now I will have to rethink because I value your opinion.

another thing about this duke clemson game is that duke has been fading late in the year last couple of years, seems like the same team to me this year as every other year, a bunch of hardworking white kids with the occasional rich black player whos daddy was the nba, just think clemson got too much athleticism for the devils and might have a little to prove in this one since they failed vs wake and unc (2 teams they did not really match up well with i might add because of the superior athleticism of wake and unc.)

the miami wake game i am kinda torn on the only problem i have is that wake appears to have been undervalued all season and miami has been terrible ats lately, i do like the points you make though.

Agree with all of this. In my eyes Clemson has a MUCH better match-up situation than they did with Wake or UNC. Their size advantage is going to be big as the Tigers love to throw the ball down low and crash the glass. I see the Devils having to spend too much energy on the boards and not being able to get into their comfort zone.

I wouldn't bet on this game - Clemson can be slutty at times. Just all depends who shows.

Clemson has lost 2 ACC games thus far -- Wake and North Carolina, so the shitting the bed deal isn't valid. I am sure you watched VT game? They were down 13 with 15 to play, at VT against a Hokie team that has been on fire, so again, your angle on the discipline is not there either (Oglesby is not disciplined when choosing shot selections - he's the Macalarney of the ACC.) If Clemson covers here, then it will be due to getting offensive boards and playing aggressive with their size. Clemson's D has caused many a turnovers - Wake had 19 to Clemson's 10 - Wake is just way too talented.

I just think -4.5 would have been a more realistic line. -2 seems like I am stealing money and always makes me take a second look.

Fuck it lets make it a home dog kind of day. Seriously though, I think these are two statistically-even teams and I will take the home team getting points. BC has looked better as of late because they have had an easier schedule, but to me their offense is still far too 1-Dimensional . The bottom line to me is that UVA isn't going to lose all their home games in conference this year, and I think this is where they make their stand. If you dont like it, then don't play it.

Alot of people probably think that this is a very ugly card, but after looking at each game its what I came up with.

also, been looking at this total alot and finally decided to bite.

decent chance I am wrong on that game guys, I can't blame anyone for taking BC tonight. I know that UVA is terrible but BC plays a very similar kind of ball and has had a nice run in their schedule to create the illusion they are good. These are 2 of the bottom 5 teams in the league, and I find it tough for me personally to lay points on the road with a very average team in a conference game...

Hey Jimmy I replied to one of your threads a few days ago about UVA (my school) and couldn't help but add my 2 cents again today. The biggest problem I see with the state of the team is that our home court advantage is probably one of (if not the) weakest in the ACC. As soon as we trail by double digits or so, the crowd is just taken out of it and we never recover. Basically, without a loud and strong fan base, the idea of playing the home dog just because it is a home dog starts to make less sense. That said, I agree we will probably find a way to win 1 or 2 of the remaining ACC games this season, so this may be a good spot. Still, I think I'm going to have to fade my team tonight.

Clemson Coach Purnell is the best in YEARS. Might be someone who can
go tit for tat with Coach K. Coaching is not issue in this one I think. Try and get Paulus in foul trouble to eliminate dribble drive kickout somewhat. Need Clemson Big Men absolute terror on Boards (garbage baskets a must)Clemson just needs to stay close untill final two minutes and try to steal an upset through a drive and a three point play or Jump shot from the corner. Don't want to trade off FT's with Duke in final minutes.
