going the wrong way the last couple of rounds..

1 unit -- Maryland Terrapins +8 -110

Too many points for this Clemson team to lay, I like what is going on with both of these teams right now but Clemson just isn't a team who runs away and beats teams by DD this year (average margins in conference: -3.0 for UMd and 1.9 for Clemson). Maryland matches up pretty well in that they are actually a pretty good rebounding team. If Len can stay out of foul trouble and brings the intensity he had against NC Clemson does not have an answer for him. The key as always for UMd will be to not let Stoglin be a black hole and for him to keep everyone involved. Clemson gets Milton Jennings back and though he's a high usage guy he doesn't shoot particularly well or smartly.

You could argue its a letdown spot for Maryland after a tough loss in a game there were fired up for in UNC and a trip to Durham on deck, but for a team like UMD who considers themselves a bubble team you can't afford to look past anyone. Turgeon has these guys believing right now; I love their intensity against NC on Saturday and they did not quit after going down 15 late against Miami on Wednesday. Clemson is always a handful @ Littlejohn but this is a young team that has had a tough time fitting into their roles consistently. I think UMd is a slightly better team in better form and even though the spot isn't great it's a lot of points for this resiliant Terp team in what figures to be a fairly low-tempo, tightly played game. I don't expect this one to be decided until the final posesssions..

2-1 tonight..

had write-ups for these plays ready to go and my dog stepped on my keyboard, closing the browser. Will give short summary for both Really like that Boston play but going to keep 'em flat.

1 unit -- Boston / Florida St Under 123

Boston making a big effort to slow games down lately, FSU in a letdown spot after big UVA win. FSU matches up very well with BC defensively, and I expect BC to try very hard to keep this game in the half-court. Would not be surprised if this one is close late if FSU slumps shooting the ball.

1 unit -- Wake Forest Demon Deacons +15.5

Wake's been a DD ATS machine for me this year and UVA been pretty poor at covering the big chalk. Factor in the sammich spot for the Cavs (UNC on deck) and I'm willing to overlook the massive coaching discrepancy here.

A Play on that other game tomorrow, still on the fence..

North Carolina Tar Heels -6 -108

This isn't the slam dunk play that some people think it is, Duke is better than they looked against Miami Sunday (but still overrated) but the bottom line for me is that this is a very tough match-up for Duke. While NC doesn't defend Duke's strengths all that well (perimeter defense is definately a concern for the Heels) Duke is just a bad match-up for UNC on the other end. This is an extremely deep and athletic frontcourt for UNC, and while the Plumlee brothers and sister Kelly are fairly strong and physical, they just aren't athletic enough to keep this team off the boards (Duke ranks 9th in offensive rebounding % allowed in ACC play). I look for UNC to be very aggressive on the glass and work hard to keep the ball active. If Duke gets worn down by UNC down low they will be in a lot of trouble as their defense against penetration is actually pretty poor for the first time in a while. With Bullock in the starting line-up NC is able to play at the faster pace that Roy likes and Bullock has surprised me a bit with his defensive effort.

While this is considerred a great rivalry it's been pretty devoid of upsets in recent years (favorite has won the last 11, often by DD). When one team has had the chance to put their foot to the throat, often that team has capitalized and gone out of their way to run up the score. This isn't a great Carolina team, but they do have the ability to run away from teams once they smell blood in the water.

On a side note, I would also like to use this opportunity to say how much I hate both of these programs. In a just world both these teams of overrated players, asshole coaches and ugly fans would have the building collapse on them tonight; it would certainly make Raleigh a nicer place to live.
