Yes I know this is old news to all of us but how pathetic is it that we see sports odds daily in virtually every major city-newspaper across the nation, ESPN has daily picks on the spread on their website, and other countries are free to do as they wish with their own money, such as gamble online and on bet on sports freely in their areas, but United States citizens cannot.

No wonder a record number of U.S. citizens have renounced their citizenship the last couple of years.

I do think the govt. will wake up & smell the coffee (the benefits & profits) some day soon when it comes allowing the U.S. people to have TRUE freedom in spending their money as they wish, such as betting online and on sports abroad...

You have people running around with money grams and fake names all the while politicians looking to put up more & more slot machines and states raking in money from lotteries.

It is pathetic.

I'm not exactly a patriot these days, but you're going a little overboard. In many countries, you have no freedoms at all. Half the world lives on less than $2 a day, so I don't think they are making too many wagers. Nobody has ever not bet or not gotten high because of some bullshit law, either.

Gambling is BAD ... didn't you know that .... Shush()*

LOL I know.

But we are free to buy & smoke cigarettes to help contribute to us getting cancer...

We are free to drink as much as we like and get cirrhosis of the liver...

We are free to take out loans until we get in massive debt and go bankrupt and/or lose everything...

Stupid...Stupid....Laws this country has...

Exactly. Anyone can go to Nevada to legally bet. I don't think offshore is legal in France, Gemany, or Russia and they are pretty powerful countries

Is there not something unconstitutional about being told what to do with your money?

I agree....but then someone will say they want to use their hard earned money for drugs or nuclear weapons.....so I guess being biased I don't want to pretend I know where the right place is to draw the line.

That's the reason the government changed "We The People" to "We will Dictate" what you will do. So when you're out and about every person you see just say Thank You.

The OP is a little misguided. You can bet legally in Canada, Australia, and the UK. Anywhere else? You think people in Africa and India are logging into Neteller and Pinnacle after they shit in a field? China and North Korea? It's even illegal in Italy.

In the US, it's de facto legal. People bet everyday with no threat of repurcussions. It was nice with Neteller, but it's not hard today to bet on any game you want.

illegal in plenty of advanced countries. last year, for example Greece, Cyprus and Bulgaria all outlawed non govt-owned betting to the degree that now they monitor banks. If money shows up from a foreign source you have to prove this was not betting related and there is practically no way to fund online books even if you know how to get around IP/VPN issues

news just came out today that this was likely some inside deal ....

Greek gambling monopoly privatization questioned.A prosecutor in Athens is investigating last year's sale of Greece's gambling monopoly, OPAP, to a consortium of local, Czech, Slovak and Russian investors. The $878 million deal allowed the Greek privatization agency, Taiped, to meet its repeatedly reduced 2013 revenue target of about $1.7 billion, and show that Greece is on track with the austerity program imposed on its by its international bailout. The privatization, however, was fishy from the start. Right after it went through, Taiped chief Stelios Stavridis became the third head of the agency in 12 months to lose his job. He had been photographed on board a private jet that belonged to Dimitris Melissanidis, the principal Greek partner in the consortium that bought OPAP. Melissanidis, a self-made billionaire with a murky past, may have been unqualified to own the gambling business because of prior convictions.
