The
Oakland Athletics traded pitcher
Scott Kazmir to the
Houston Astros shortly before the left-hander was to make his scheduled start Thursday.
Kazmir, 31, was scheduled to pitch this afternoon against the Blue Jays in Oakland. He will be a free agent after this season.
Kazmir is 5-5 with a 2.38 ERA with 101 strikeouts this season.
Heading to the A's in return are a pair of minor leaguers in right-hander Daniel Mengden and catcher Jacob Nottingham.
Houston is two games behind the red-hot Angels in the AL West after leading the division most of this season.
