I don't think Canada has that much hate against Brett Hull for picking to play for the US instead of Canada when the Canadian team wouldn't look at him in the mid 80's and the US team took him on. People boo him more than most in international games because in the 90's he was one of the top 3 players for the US who were Canada's main rival during the World Cups and Olympic's. He was the face of the team which caused most of the boo he got.

(However I am sure a couple of fans who didn't know the whole back story boo him cause he was playing for the US and not Canada)

With his reasoning and rationale, Africa would field a pretty strong team.

I can tell by the last comment that your roots are all American dating back however I may be wrong and forgive me if i am. If A-Rod plays for the D.R it is huge for that country and the people of that nation while he grew up in Miami his mother was from the Dominican so he has to have strong ties with that country. He may of grew up in American but from his background in Miami everything around him was latin and I would venture to say that everyone considered him latin too growing up so he feels a sense of connection to the D.R. However that may be a culture difference between Canada and the US since here even if you are from another country and are Canadian most people still go oh im Italian...Polish, Koren, etc if you ask their background even if there born here.

Maybe A-Rod just wants to do somethig to honour his mother or family. The US wins just about everything anyway the day after the US wins it will be forgotten but for the people of the Dominican it would mean everything to them since their entire national identiy is tied to baseball.

How would you like this to be your starting infield?
1B Ortiz (assuming Pujols goes to the outfield)
2B Tejada (assuming they move him over)
SS A-Rod
3B Beltre

Not bad...

He and Janet Jones Gretzky should both get divorced and marry each other

Am i the only one who was PISSED at Mrs. Gretzky when they showed her at the USA/Canada Gold Medal Hockey game and when Canada scored an ENG to put the game away they showed the Canadian "braintrust" there - Wayne Gretzky and all - and Janey was there, too.

Wayne-o and the boys were going crazy but Janet was also very happy

WHY Janet - WHY!

You are an AMERICAN citizen. WHY were you rooting for Canada over YOUR country. OK - if your hubby was PLAYING for the team i could understand it. But he was NOT playing AT ALL - just the one who put it together.

That INFURIATED me to see her clapping and happy HER country LOST

She can go "F" herself after that as far as I am concerned!

Let's have Benedict Gretzky and Benedict A-Rod get together so they can BOTH root/play against their HOME country

Hey you 2: :finger: :finger: :finger: :finger: :finger:

Winky, I highly doubt Janet Gretzky was rooting against USA, nor for Canada. She was rooting for her hubby. Wives like her don't care about the political allegiances, just that the father of their spoiled blond brats is successful.

Maybe A-Rod just got tired of W and the rest of the warmongers and was lucky enough to have his Dominican roots to fall back on!:103631605

This is a joke. So many people disrespect people like A-Rod, born in the US but still close to the culture of their parents and that is wrong too. He is American and should be damn proud of that. What the hell has gotten into him for cripes sake??? Not to blow this out of proportion, but maybe he just wants to be on a winner. I would have to say unfortunately the DR looks like a better team than the US, especially if we get the typical American athlete reaction to it with many saying they don't feel like participating.

He speaks fluent Spanish, I have seen him on plenty of Spanish shows before BTW.

I know he speaks Spanish, I was just joking. Truly though, I didn't even know he was Dominican until yesterday, I thought he was Mexican. He has every right to be proud of his heritage, but it seems like this came out of nowhere.

In NYC, you need to know someone is rooting for you ALL the time! Dominicans are very faithful and proud of their own. They also know baseball much more so than the average US fan! "Bolbuena es lo mejor!":toast:

CP: That's a great idea, now that America stands for nothing, every athlete should choose his or her own ethnic origin and play for that nation! But , be careful W and his Rovers don't lock you up and throw you in the super-sized Gitmo!:sad3: P.S. Go Hawks!

Maybe that's why they and their island brethren depend on baseball so much in their lives! Reality is way too depressing!:drink: Barcelo, baby, or Brugal if you are crazy enough!:toast:
